How to Get Back on Track When You Make a Wrong Turn

Have you ever reached a point in your life when you want to throw in the towel and walk away, saying, what’s the point anyway? When you reach that point in your life, how do you know when it’s time to truly call it quits and when it’s time to keep on fighting?

According to Albert Einstein, Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Do I believe that philosophy? Well, yes—and, no. Let me explain my theory.

I do agree that if you’re trying something over and over again and you’re not getting the desired results, maybe it’s time to call it quits.

After all, who wants to waste valuable time and energy on something that is not getting any results? I don’t and I don’t think you do either. Wasting time is not something that I like to do. It happens, but I don’t like it. I’d rather be productive and trying to accomplish different tasks for whatever project I’m working on. Life is too short to be wasting or killing time, waiting for something better to come along. Do what you can in the moment because we never know how many moments we’re going to have in this life. So when do you know it’s time to quit?

On the flip side of the coin, there are times when you do need to keep doing the same thing over and over again and hoping for the same result—plain and simple—success. For example, if you are an author or own you’re a business or work from home…whatever you are doing to make an income, you need to follow some simple core steps to get success and maintain it.

You need to be consistent. You need to blog everyday (or have someone else do it for you). It pays off in the long run to blog and provide consistent, reliable content which will drive new traffic to your site.

That’s what you want—a steady stream of traffic to your site—both new and returning customers. Blogging will help you do that. You need to believe in your business, your product and yourself and continue branding it. If no one knows who you are or what your business is, you’re not going to make the sales you need to make. However, how do you keep going when you made a wrong turn and don’t know how to get back onto the right track again?

You need to have a dogged determination in whatever it is that you are doing in order to succeed. Without determination, you’re ready to give up before the really hard part even comes your way.

Even if you don’t own your own business or aren’t an author or someone promoting something, you still need to follow certain core steps daily, even at your job. We’re all aiming to be successful, well, at least most of us are. Working our way up the ladder of success takes time, perseverance, consistency in our actions and a strong desire to never give up. Many successful people had millions of failures before they achieved success. If you lost your way, take a moment to stop, look and listen. When was the last time you remember that you were actually going the right way?

Get rid of the baggage you’re hanging on to—all the shouldas and wouldas and couldas. They don’t belong with you. Forget about the mistakes, pick yourself up, dust yourself off and try again.

The ones who fail in the end, are the ones who get out of the kitchen when the fire gets too hot. True, obstacles will come your way. This is life and obstacles are never going to completely vanish out of your pathway. The difference is that successful people know how to do the same thing over and over again and get good results. What is that? They know how to keep on keeping on when the going gets tough. They make a solid decision never to give up and bow out of the race.

If you’re at a place today where you feel like you want to give up, don’t. Dig deep inside yourself and know that just as Proverbs 29:18 says, without vision, the people perish—similarly, you need to keep the visions and dreams alive in your heart that God has given you.

Dreams are wonderful and it only takes a mustard seed to make a dream grow, so cultivate those dreams in your heart and believe that you can do all things through Christ who gives you strength. God has a plan for your life. The only step He asks you to take is to trust Him and allow Him to be Lord of your life. Commit your plans to Him and He will help you succeed.
