How to Start a “Portable” Business

What does a portable business mean? It is the opportunity to be your own boss, work when you want and how you want and work on your own terms and in your own location—with the ability to pick up and go whenever you want to. It’s the ability to follow your own agenda and not follow after someone else’s agenda. Are you tired of doing the bidding of your boss?

Being your own boss is the only way to truly find success and have the portable business that you’ve always dreamed of having. Who wouldn’t want to work on “the beaches of the world,” as David Wood is known to say or to work from a secluded mountain retreat or simply to work from the comfort and convenience of your own home? It is possible and there are legitimate opportunities to get you to the portable business of your dreams.

So what’s the first step towards finding such a portable business?

You need to evaluate your own goals first. Where do you see yourself in 1 – 3 months? Those are going to be your immediate goals. Where do you see yourself in 1 – 3 years? Those are going to be your short-term goals. Where do you see yourself in more than 5 years from now? Those are going to be your long-term goals.

After you figure out your goals and find your “why”, then you can begin finding the “how.” It’s important to have your “why” because if you don’t know why you want to have a portable business, when the going gets tough, you are going to quit before you make it to any form of success. Knowing your true “why” is what will keep you going during those hard times of the initial start-up and will keep you on point as you navigate through the road map, bypassing obstacles along the way. Nothing worthwhile is ever easy, but once you achieve the end goal, the journey there is always worth the blood sweat and tears.

Having an entrepreneurial spirit and having the guts to start your own business—whether a small business or an online business—is the way to get the time freedom.

There is no other way to get time freedom and to live life on your own terms than to become an entrepreneur. There are different options towards starting a portable business. One of the main ingredients you’ll need is constant access to the Internet and a business that can be run online. That allows true flexibility and the ability to work from anywhere in the world.

You can opt for the traditional network marketing company route, which is a good start with a legitimate opportunity.

However, you need to be prepared to work extremely diligently for at least 1 – 5 years in order to build up a downline comprising more than 500 customers and business builders so that you’ll be earning a six figure income each year. This is a truly legitimate opportunity and you can’t go wrong with something like this.

With an online business or a similar affiliate marketing and lead generating system, you’ll be able to get a faster start towards earning a residual six figure income and this will most likely begin to happen in the first three months. The plus side to this type of opportunity is that since they offer you 100% commissions, you will only need approximately 80 – 100 team members in your downline in order to earn that six figure income. That’s how come you’ll end up on the fast track.

You can still become an entrepreneur by opening a traditional brick and mortar business; however, that is definitely not a portable business.

At least it’s not portable until you begin making good money and can spend less time at the store or office. This type of business opportunity usually requires hours and hours spent at the location, especially for the first 3 – 5 years before you can hand the reins over to an experienced manager that you trust. So if you go this route, you’re kind of defeating the purpose of starting a portable business.

The final option is to take that entrepreneurial spirit and instead of opening a traditional brick and mortar store, you open such a unique business or store online, similar to how the Amazon business works online and you will have that portable business that you’ve always dreamed about.

However, this will take an extreme amount of work and is more difficult to maintain the momentum necessary in order to get you the online exposure that is needed to get you the customers that you want. You’d have an easier time with joining an affiliate network marketing business or affiliate marketing lead generating business.

Whichever option you decide to work with, remember that those who succeed—always prepare for anything, plan ahead, persevere through difficulties and obstacles and profit in the end.
