Live Well Corner: Benefits of Drinking Green Tea

Do You Know the Benefits of Drinking Green Tea?

By, Joanne Troppello

If you are a tea drinker and especially if you like to drink green tea, you’ll be happy to know that there are many health benefits to drinking green tea.

An interesting fact that I recently learned is that green tea may help to preserve your teeth. These findings came from a recent Japanese study which was published in Preventive Medicine. I heard that drinking green tea was linked to weight loss, but the idea that drinking it can help keep your teeth healthy is so interesting to me. Drinking green tea kills bacteria which cause plaque on your teeth. This prevents tooth decay.

According to an article in Better Nutrition from the June 2010 issue, 20,000 participants between ages 40 – 64 were in the study.

Apparently, for the study participants who drank 1 – 2 cups of green tea each day, an 18% less risk of tooth loss or decay was seen.

For the participants who drank more than five cups per day, they saw a 23% less risk of tooth decay.

Some of the benefits of drinking green tea are: it prevents Alzheimer’s, helps to protect vision, reduces your risk for heart disease, helps prevent some forms of cancer and also aids in weight loss. Some other benefits of drinking green tea are: it helps to improve your body’s ratio of good to bad cholesterol, helps to treat rheumatoid arthritis and is good for your immune system.

Drinking green tea helps to give your body the energy boost that it needs. The nice benefit of drinking green tea is that it’s a natural drink and you don’t intake all of the sugar from coffee, soda or other sugary snacks in order to boost your energy. The safe, natural way to boost your body’s energy is always the best way to go. Many people turn to drinking coffee and sodas and other energy drinks to get that energy boost during the day. By drinking green tea, that is the best alternative, to give you the natural energy boost that you need to keep going during the day.

If you’re looking for a great green tea drink, check out Energy Tea Mix: Pomegranate Flavor from The Shaklee Store. This green tea blend includes exotic white, red and Matcha green teas as well as the addition of the juicy flavor of pomegranate, with a touch of stevia for sweetness. This is such a great way to boost your energy level each day by drinking natural green tea.

There is also another natural green tea with the same blend of exotic white, red, and Matcha green teas, but this blend is unsweetened and doesn’t have the pomegranate flavor or added ingredient of stevia. Energy Tea Mix: Unsweetened from The Shaklee Store
