Lifestyle: Reasons to Start Using Google Calendar

Reasons to Start Using Google Calendar

By, Joanne Troppello

In this day and age of busy schedules and stressful days, sometimes it’s amazing how we all stay organized and don’t get appointments mixed up. I was the person who used a calendar book where I wrote out any appointments and events on the calendar. Sad to say, it wasn’t until just recently that I started using the calendar app on my smart phone.

Now since my husband doesn’t like to keep dates on a schedule, he has always relied on me to tell him when we have events and other appointments. As I mentioned I had started to use the calendar app on my phone, but then any appointments I’d input would have to be input separately into the calendar app on his phone—way too much work for me.

That’s when I realized that I should be using the Google Calendar to keep track of our schedule by inputting appointments and events into the calendar via the computer or through the smart phone app.

The best part of this is that I only have to input the date one time and it’s saved on the Google Calendar online and on both of our calendars since we’ve linked our accounts.

An added benefit of using Google Calendar is that you are able to share your schedule with others like family, friends and co-workers. As business owners, my husband and I have found it very convenient using Google Calendar to keep track of one of our client’s schedules. I need to schedule appointments for him for various PR events and it’s been wonderful to have up to the minute access to his calendar to be able to add events to his schedule.

Also as I mentioned, Google Calendar allows for two-way syncing to your smart phone so that even when you’re away from your computer, you can access your calendar.

What better feature is there than having such on-the-go access? Have you ever forgotten about an event and wished you had a reminder for it? With this calendar, you can customize your reminders to make sure you stay on track with your entire daily schedule.

If you are hosting a live event or even a teleconference, by using Google Calendar, you can send out invitations to the invitees and they can then respond with an RSVP via email or through the actual app.

You also have access to syncing the calendar to your Microsoft Outlook program. Even if you don’t have access to the Internet, you can work offline and still have access to your calendar, wherever you are. That is another awesome feature. Probably the best feature is that the service is FREE…who wouldn’t want that?

Do you use Google Calendar to stay organized? Do you use other calendar apps to help plan your schedule?
