Are You Facing a Mountain Today?
By Joanne Troppello
Staring at a mountain in your life can become daunting and quickly drain your life of the energy you need to make each day successful. If you are not careful, you can get discouraged and think that you’ll never reach the summit and overcome the challenges in your life. If you want to make it to the top of that mountain, you need to dig deeper and find courage to take another step and then another one—until you reach the top.
For me, faith is the first step in how I will successfully traverse the mountain pass. You may not have faith in God, but you need to at least have faith in yourself and in the hope that tomorrow will be a better day.
My mom used to always tell me that where there’s a will, there’s a way. I truly believe she was right in drilling that into my mind and heart. If I don’t have a desire to succeed and strive for success, how will I ever cross that mountain?
However, willpower is not the only ingredient needed to trek through that mountain pass. You need climbing gear, food, and to prepare for any unexpected obstacles you’ll encounter along the way.
In your writing life, you need the same figurative ingredients to help in your journey toward success and making it to the top of the mountain.
Have you studied and learned your craft? Are you staying current on all the best marketing strategies? Have you mastered the newest social media platform? Are you networking with other authors, writers, and bloggers? Have you created a vision board to help you when the trek up the mountain becomes too overwhelming and you want to give up?
If you are prepared with your power pack and have the willpower to succeed, your trek through the mountain won’t be easy, but you will make it to the valley of your dreams.
Now, I’m not spouting out rosy platitudes here. I truly believe what I am saying. I have been a freelance writer and author for many years and am still waiting for that big break for success in my career as a novelist. I have three books published but haven’t had great success. In my personal life, my husband and I have been going through a long struggle that has made us both weary through the years. However, we believe in God and our faith has carried us through.
What is carrying you through your struggles today? How do you plan to make it to the top of the mountain in your own journey?
M – Maintain the vision
O – Open your mind
U – Understand the facts
N – Never give up
T – Take friends with you
A – Accept help with needed
I – Invest in yourself and others
N – Never take your eyes off the summit
Even if you don't see results right away, keep going; because if you don't, you'll surely never see any results at all.
