Life in Action: Honoring Brian Walker and Chris Desmond
By Joanne Troppello
If you saw someone in dire need of rescuing, would you have the courage to rush into that dangerous situation and rescue them? We may not always know how we’d react in such a situation. However, sometimes we may surprise ourselves and make a split-second decision to step into action.
We wanted to honor some special people today at Pandora’s Box Gazette. Carolyn Walker is our “Write Wise Tips” columnist who shares excellent marketing tips for writers on the first Saturday each month here at the magazine. We’re honoring her husband and his friend today for their bravery in rescuing a man from a burning mobile home.
Her husband, Brian Walker and his friend Chris Desmond were honored for saving a 60-year-old man from a fire on the evening of
Wednesday, March 14th, 2018.
Brian stated, “God has a reason for everything, and He put us there at the right time.”
They were the first civilians to get the Badge of Bravery Award from the Clermont Professional Firefighter IAFF Local Union, 4350. This award is something that is normally offered to serving firefighters for their above and beyond bravery in saving a life.
They also received a plaque from the City of Clermont. The award ceremony took place on March 28th, 2018, at the Clermont City Hall during the weekly Clermont City Council meeting.
You can find more details about the rescue in this article covered by the Orlando Sentinel about how Carolyn’s husband decided to grab his friend and go in to save the man.
