Why I Love Using Indeed to Search for Freelance Jobs
by Joanne Troppello
As a freelance writer, it can be time consuming to find new projects to work on. You need to weed out the scam job offers from the legitimate ones posted all over the internet. I used to do a Google search for “freelance copywriting” jobs. However, that process takes time and you sometimes run into scams. I recently started using Indeed to search for new freelance projects. Check out some of my reasons why I love using this job search engine.
Access to Millions of Jobs
The Indeed job search engine offers job seekers access to millions of jobs from across the Internet in a wide array of fields and areas of specialties. They have over 200 million visitors to their website each month. I love that they provide access to so many freelance jobs and I only need to go to one place online to find them.
Explore Job Trends
Indeed offers a variety of features such as their job trends menu where you can view the current job trends in the United States. These trends are listed by category like architecture, accounting, and customer service. When you click on a specific category, you will find more information on the average job postings for the month and the change in job market share detailed in percentage points compared to the previous month and year. It details job clicks over time and a listing of the top job titles per click such as writer, editor, video editor, and journalist. This feature may not necessarily help you find a job. However, it is helpful for the new generation entering the workforce or people who are reentering the professional world to learn more about current job trends, so they can plan their job search appropriately—and plan for their future careers if they are continuing their education.
Easily Create Your Resume
If you need assistance with creating a professional looking resume that will get noticed by the right employers, you can use the resume building feature on Indeed. You can easily upload your current resume or create one with this tool. Indeed is a well-known job search engine that has thousands of employers searching their website each month. You can increase your chances of connecting with the right employer, by uploading or creating your resume on Indeed. With your resume uploaded to your profile, you can enhance the job application process since it is easy to apply by sending your uploaded or created resume. You can create a cover letter for use when applying for jobs to make your application more professional looking.
Research Company Profiles
Indeed offers employers the opportunity to create company pages where they can showcase their brand and augment the process of job seekers connecting with them. You can find up to date company information, photos, logo, and a variety of other information like reviews and new job postings.
Automate Search Results
With the automated job search alerts, you can make your life easier and improve the job searching process. Easily set up job alerts by inputting relevant keywords, job titles, locations, and companies so you will be alerted via email when jobs meet your search criteria. Receiving these daily job alerts can be helpful when you are trying to quickly find the right job and don’t have extra time to keep searching on the website each day.
Use the Mobile App
This has been my favorite feature of searching for jobs on Indeed. The mobile app platform is user-friendly and helps you search and apply for jobs even when you are not home in front of your PC or laptop. Use the app on your smart phone or tablet during your lunch hour while searching for a new job. It is available for use on iOS and Android devices.
Easily Track Applications
Two of my freelance projects recently ended and I have been searching for more copywriting work. Another feature that I have enjoyed immensely on Indeed is their application tracking feature on my personal dashboard. This is great because I’ve been applying to many jobs in the last few weeks and sometimes I might forget which jobs I applied to or what the job description was. I can go back to the dashboard and check out where I applied and keep track of the application process.
Research Salary Data
Indeed provides current salary data relevant to industries so you can be better informed as you continue your job search and prepare for interviews and salary negotiations. You can see the latest estimated salary information from approximately 875 employers, users, and job listings for the last 36 months, which was last updated on August 30, 2018.
So, now that you know why I love using Indeed for my job searching, why don’t you head over there to get started on your job search today! Have you used Indeed for your most recent job search? What job search engines have you recently used? If you’re a freelance writer, where do you go to find current legitimate job postings?
