Called by God
by Celita Perillo
So, I know we are just “meeting”, but I have an admission. I have been feeling discouraged, worthless, stupid, taken for granted, and just plain down. Have you ever felt like you just need someone to say “Well Done”, “You can do it”, “You matter”? You know… a bit of affirmation and encouragement.
I was reading Isaiah 41 today, and verses 9 and 10 reminded me of some very important things.
“I have called you back from the ends of the earth, saying, ‘You are my servant.’ For I have chosen you and will not throw you away. Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”
1. You are called. He is saying that He wants you.
2. You are chosen. He intends on keeping you, not throwing you away. No matter the mistakes you make, turn your heart back to Jesus. He loves you most ardently, and He desires you by Him always.
3. No need to fear, Jesus is near!
4. No need to be discouraged. Jesus has got this.
5. He will give you strength and help. I can use all the help I can get. You?
6. He will uphold you. He has got YOU.
For whatever reason, I needed to read that I had enough value that the Lord would never “throw me away.” In this world full of convenience, knowing that I have purpose means a lot. You have purpose, too!
Jesus, in the moments when I start to look down on myself and wonder about my purpose on this earth and this life, remind me again of your plan for me as I cling to you. Remind me to hold on and not listen to those discouraging, bullying words that pop into my head, or those said by others. Help me, instead, to believe Your Word, and know that You have a plan for me—as Jeremiah 29:11 says, It is a good plan. Give me Your strength and hope to keep going. Thank you for Your faithfulness, strength, and help. Amen.
