Spunky Doodle’s Christmas Gathering
by Linda Suit
There is a very special day called Christmas. I am talking to animals all over the world, so we can gather for a special talk on Christmas Eve. I've been thinking about how to get them all here. Last night I dreamed of places I had never been. Mommy tells me if I close my eyes I can imagine them and things I will never get to see in real life, so I dreamed about animals like tigers, elephants, giraffes, muskox, lions, rock dassies (betcha you don't know what that is), camels, the list is endless, that I think will be listening on that Special Night before the Special Day. They won't all be able to come here, and we won't all speak the same language, but smiles and love are the same all over the world. I know something magical is going to happen that night. I think I was sent here to Mommy and Jerry Boy as a kind of squirrel angel, so I could bring smiles and joy to lots of people. I want to share that with the whole world, so I am trying to find a way to reach around the world with my itty bitty arms and spread that joy. I close my eyes and see them running around the whole wide world! That's gotta be magic, huh...or maybe not? Maybe it's because someone special created all of them.
I think when you talk softly you get more attention. This morning I was watching out my window, moving my mouth, whispering, and a Great Blue Heron flew in and landed on a rock in the creek. Then I saw little birds, more squirrels, and a deer walking down the creek...silly girl, that creek is cold! And look at our Miss Libby all dressed up for Christmas!
The journey has begun, the animals are coming from all over to the Gathering, because I told them I had a story to share about the Special Day called Christmas. Watch for them in case they need directions, as some of them live very far away. Just like humans, there are lots of different colors, sizes, they speak different languages, and guess what? We are all gonna be friends. When you see someone different than you, they are just as special as you, so be nice, smile, say hello.
I can't wait to see how all this will come together. Mommy and Jerry Boy have been to many other countries and have seen strange animals. In the Amazon jungle they saw botos, rare pink dolphins, and piranha, the mean, grouchy kind. Jerry Boy even swam in the river with them. Glad he made it out with all his parts still attached. Why am I telling you all this? Because this ties in with the big story the Special Night before the Special Day.
It's getting closer, It's Dec. 23, so it must be Christmas Adam. Tomorrow's Christmas Eve, and Adam came before Eve. See, I'm figuring this out! Stay with me here.
Kids believe on the Special Night before the Special Day, Santa goes all over the world leaving gifts for boys and girls. He has lots of helpers to do this. All the animals love Santa too. See, he's sitting with them, telling them all about Christmas Eve and what is going to happen. Do you see anyone else special in this picture? Yep, it's me, Spunky Doodle! On Christmas Eve there will be a special magic spread all over the world and Santa and his helpers, reindeer, and lots of other animals, will be ready for the big trip. Christmas gifts don't have to be big, they can be something like a picture you drew for your Mommy, or something your family made for someone. The main thing is to give it with love.
I want you to spend Christmas Adam with your family and friends, and I am going to get some extra rest because tomorrow nite, Christmas Eve, is coming quickly, and then I will talk about the real meaning of the Special Day called Christmas.
This afternoon Mommy was cleaning my Happy-tat. I sat on the chair watching her and started singing. Jerry Boy came in and sat down with me and started singing. I got up as high as I could on top of my house and looked down at him, started moving my mouth too and we sang a Doodle Duet! Mommy said it was so precious all she could do was just sit on the floor and watch. We sang White Christmas, then Jerry Boy sang "Oh Holy Night". I think there was some special magic here today because of this Special Night before Christmas Day. We have been trying to reach creatures all over the world for the Gathering, and it's Christmas Eve and here we are, on the Special Night before the Special Day. It really happened!
Finally, it is the Special Day called CHRISTmas. Happy Birthday Jesus! It is a day to celebrate His birth, spend time with family and friends, share gifts of love and friendship. So, on this Christmas night, the work is all done, the gifts are unwrapped, the food is eaten, but you know what is the most special to me? I have Mommy, Jerry Boy, and all of you. There have been times throughout the year I just didn't want to write a story, but then I thought of you. What if you were waiting for a smile from me, and I didn't give you one? Well you know what? All ya gotta do is look outdoors; I have lots of cousins that sorta look like me, not as pretty of course, and they aren't as smart, but, well you get the idea. I'm sending you all special hugs, kisses, and when you need that very special hug, just close your eyes...feel my angel wings on your face, my special little nose wiggle and kisses. God made me special so I could be your friend.
So, as CHRISTmas Day comes to a close, remember what it's all about.
May the magic of CHRISTmas be with you all.
Merry Christmas, and God Bless from Spunky Doodle
