Are You Thankful for Anything Today?

Nurturing Gratefulness in Your Heart

by Veritas Vita 777

Nurturing gratefulness in your heart is so important – especially if you want to live a victorious life as a Christian. It’s naïve to think that life will always be perfect because it certainly won’t. However, a key factor in living victoriously is cultivating thankfulness in your heart – and trusting that God is in control no matter what you’re going through.

“Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all the others.” – Marcus Tullius Cicero

Fostering gratitude in your life can open your heart and mind to new things. That simple life goal can help you see people and your circumstances in a new light—how God sees them – through a heart of redemption.

“Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” – Melody Beattie

I love that message from Melody Beattie! When you focus on cultivating gratitude in your heart each day, that can help you understand your past better and see God’s purposes through it all. Being thankful can stir up a deep sense of peacefulness in your soul. Choosing to hope in God instead of walking in defeat, can help you see the future through a lens of faith.

“If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.” – Meister Eckhart

I have learned early on in my life that life was going to be hard. However, God has been so faithful. He’s always provided for my needs. He has never failed me.

2 Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving; (Col. 4:2, NKJV)

Developing a deep prayer life has helped me nurture gratitude in my life. That’s a great exhortation from Paul in Col. 4:2 to keep praying and be earnest about it. He continues further in urging believers to be vigilant in that prayer time with thanksgiving.

Praise[a] the Lord!
Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. (Psalm 106:1, NKJV)

If you need to foster more gratitude in your life, I urge you to read through the book of Psalms. This is a great reminder from Psalms 106:1 to praise God. Give Him thanks for He is good! He is merciful and gracious. His love is unending.

Just being alive for another day is reason enough to praise God.

That mindset has helped me to focus on nurturing a life of gratitude. I’m thankful for so many things, but particularly for salvation. I’m grateful that God’s peace truly does overwhelm me in a beautiful way. God is always with me. I have confidence that He hears my prayers. I’m thankful for my family and friends. God is good and His mercy and love endure forever!
