5 Verses to Memorize and Recite –
When You Need to Step Out in Faith
by J.M. Troppello
Stepping out in faith is scary.
Sometimes it’s exciting.
But many times, you feel as if you’re stumbling along in a dark room, waiting for the moment you stub your toe on a hard object.
However, God has given you a special gift through His Word. You have a choice to make. You can read it and soak in the message of scripture—and memorize verses that can help you.
Or you can ignore it and try to do things your own way, without any help from the Lord.
Sure, sometimes I try to step out on my own.
Yet, most times, I cling to God’s Word like the beacon of light that it is to my life.
I’m so thankful that the Holy Spirit reminds me of the right scripture at the right timing. Other times, I read a social media post or an article that had the message of faith that I needed at that moment.
I’ve written about this many times that memorizing scripture is so important. Thankfully, having a Bible in America is not illegal. In other countries, it is forbidden. You won’t always be able to have your Bible with you. Yes, you can access Bible apps on your phone.
But sometimes there is no time for that. You need a Word from the Lord in that instant. If you’ve been diligent in memorizing scripture, you have a wealth of wisdom inside you.
5 Verses to Cling to When Stepping Out in Faith
1. Things Not Seen
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1, NKJV)
When you believe God for something, you cannot see the outcome. You’re trusting Him to make a way where there seems to be no way. When you step out in faith, cling to this verse, knowing that God is still in control even when things seem out of control.
2. Hearing God’s Word
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17, NKJV)
This is my favorite verse about faith. Your faith increases when you hear God’s Word. That’s why I read the Bible aloud to myself during my devotional time. When reading at night with my husband, we read it aloud. Hearing God’s Word cultivates and enhances your faith.
3. Believe When You Pray
And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive. (Matthew 21:22, NKJV)
When you pray, you need to believe. Don’t pray a wishy-washy prayer. Come to God with confidence that you know that He will hear your prayer. Yes, you may not get the answer that you wanted. However, you can have confidence in the fact that He hears your prayers.
4. Come Boldly to God
Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16, NKJV)
This is another one of my favorite verses about having confidence in God. When you’re in a time of need (or any other time), you should come boldly before the Lord. Show Him that you truly believe that He hears you. Let Him know that you have the utmost faith in Him.
5. Faith Pleases God
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6, NKJV)
God rewards the diligent seeker.
I confess that I have not always been a diligent seeker of Him.
However, as I’ve grown in my walk with the Lord, my diligence has increased. The main blessing I’ve received from that diligence of seeking Him—is peace that passes all understanding (Phil 4:7).
I encourage you to diligently seek Him.
He will reward your diligence with that beautiful gift of peace that passes all understanding. Seek Him today as you step out in faith.
Faith is a beautiful thing.
It can help you every day in your life to focus on the Lord and not on your problems. If you’ve been memorizing Bible verses, keep going. If you haven’t, I encourage you to start. You won’t be sorry that you did.
