5 Verses to Memorize and Recite –
When You Need the Courage to Do the Next Right Thing
by J.M. Troppello
Have you ever needed the courage to do the next right thing in your life? I have. That’s when I’ve gone to the Word of God and read His truth to help me make the right decisions. If you need the courage to do the next right thing, memorize and recite these verses when you need help.
1. Full Armor of God
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (Eph. 6:11, NKJV)
You can read the full passage of Scripture about The Whole Armor of God – where Paul uses a metaphor of armor worn into battle to show how a victorious Christian puts on the “Armor of God” daily. Verse eleven is a good one to memorize when you need help to do the right thing in your life. When you put on the full armor of God, you can “stand against the wiles of the devil.”
2. Firm in Your Faith
Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. (I Peter 5:9, NKJV)
When you remain steadfast in your faith, you can resist the temptations in your life. God is so much greater than your enemy (the devil). Read I John 4:4 to encourage you because it says that “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” That is a beautiful truth that gives me so much comfort.
3. Be Steadfast in Faith
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. (I Cor. 15:58, NKJV)
I love the words “be steadfast and immovable.” Don’t waver in your faith. Now, of course, I’ve wavered at times in my life. However, for the most part – as I’ve grown in my walk in the Lord – I’ve been able to be more steadfast and immovable in my faith (through the daily help of the Holy Spirit). Anything that you do for the Lord is not done in vain.
4. Be a Good Witness
Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel…, (Phil. 1:27, NKJV)
It’s important to live your life daily as a witness for Christ. You are not in the journey alone. Yes, your salvation is individual to you, not universal with everyone. However, it’s vital to work together with other believers for doing good works in Christ – and to give and receive encouragement.
5. Stand in God’s Truth
Therefore, my beloved and longed-for brethren, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, beloved. (Phil. 4:1, NKJV)
Stand strong in God’s truth and in His Word. Take the time daily to pray, praise God, and study the Bible. Read Romans 10:17 which tells you that “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” I love memorizing verses so that I can recite them to myself as I need help. Many times, the Holy Spirit has reminded me of those verses at the right time, exactly when I needed it.
Rest in God’s Strength
Trust that God will get you through all difficulties in your life. Have faith moment by moment, knowing that the power of the Holy Spirit – working in and through your life – can help you overcome temptation—and do the next right thing in your life.
