5 Verses to Memorize and Recite

When You Have Trouble Calming Your Mind

by J.M. Troppello

Is worrying a problem for you? Are you able to easily trust God? Worrying has been a problem in my life. Through the years, I’ve grown in my walk with the Lord. He’s helped me stop worrying so much.

If you need to calm your mind from anxious thoughts, consider memorizing and reciting the following five verses as the need for God’s comfort arises in your life.

1. Don’t Be Anxious

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. (Phil. 4:6, NKJV)

Sometimes this is difficult to do, but God doesn’t want you to worry about anything. I used to struggle in my younger years as a new Christian with worrying too much. I needed the help of the Holy Spirit to give everything over to God. Cultivate a heart of joy and thanksgiving. God wants to know your heart and all that you are feeling.

2. Accept God’s Peace

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (John 14:27, NKJV)

In this verse, Jesus said that He gives His peace to you as a Christian. This peace is not what the world can give you. Don’t let your heart be troubled or afraid. Again, that’s difficult to do in and of yourself. You can only do this by the power of the Holy Spirit and God’s Word. Accept God’s peace. You have to decide to do that.

3. Don’t Live in Fear

Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10, NKJV)

God is with you. In this verse you see that God doesn’t want you to fear or be dismayed. Ask God to help you and He will give you the grace, peace, and strength to overcome all issues and obstacles in your life. I love the end of this verse—God will uphold you with His righteous hand.

4. Embrace God’s Comfort

In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul. (Psalm 94:19, NKJV)

God will comfort you. Even with many anxieties welling up in your soul, trust God to comfort you. Go to Him in prayer and accept that comfort. Know that He wants what’s best for you—and that includes his peace that passes all understanding (Phil. 4:7).

5. God Will Deliver You

I sought the Lord, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears. (Psalm 34:4, NKJV)

You need to seek God’s help. Call out to Him and He will deliver you from your fears. The journey toward peace in God begins with you. Don’t focus on the problems and worries that you have in this life. Turn your attention to how God has helped you in the past. He will do it again. It may not be in the same way, but He will make a way where there seems to be no way. Trust in God to deliver you.

I hope you can memorize and recite these verses to yourself when you need to calm your mind—especially if you’re having trouble sleeping. These verses have helped me overcome worrying.
