5 Verses to Memorize and Recite When You Need to Overcome Fear
Fear is Not from God – He is Your Strength to Conquer Those Fears
by J.M. Troppello
Maybe you’ve been paralyzed by fear. Your fears may not be paralyzing you, but you don’t want to dwell in those fears. Memorize these five verses to help you overcome your fear.
1. Spirit of Power
Fear is not from God. He’s given His children a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind. Power and love are very important. However, I’ve always focused on the ‘sound mind’ part when I’ve been afraid. When I’m afraid, I don’t have that sound mind. Yet, that’s the beauty of memorizing scripture. The Holy Spirit has brought this verse to my mind many times when I’ve experienced fear. God has helped me rest in his peace during those times.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7, NKJV)
2. Not Dismayed
Fear can paralyze you and cause you to get depressed. Take heart in God’s Word. Memorize and recite this verse. Trust in God’s strength, not in your feelings of fear or despair.
Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
(Isaiah 41:10, NKJV)
3. God Fights the Battle
Trust that God is fighting your battles for you. He hasn’t forgotten about you. He is with you each step of your journey in this life. You can have confidence in the Lord.
You must not fear them, for the Lord your God Himself fights for you. (Deut. 3:22, NKJV)
4. God Stands Before You
God told Joshua not to fear his enemies. He was Joshua’s deliverer, and He will deliver you too. He stands before you and your enemies. Allow God’s peace to overwhelm you and dissipate your fear.
And the Lord said to Joshua, “Do not fear them, for I have delivered them into your hand; not a man of them shall stand before you.” (Joshua 10:8, NKJV)
5. God Delivers You
This verse is simple but powerful. The Psalmist sought God. Then God heard the psalmist. God delivered him from all his fears. Trust God today. Pray and believe that He’ll do the same for you.
I sought the Lord, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears.
(Psalm 34:4, NKJV)
Trust God Today
You have a choice each day. You can choose to walk in fear or in faith. Choose to trust God to help you overcome your fear each day. God has given you a spirit of power. He urges you not to be dismayed. He will fight the battle for you. God stands before you and your struggles or enemies. He will deliver you from all your fears.
