Ten Verses to Memorize and Recite

When You Need to Feel the Peace of God in Your Heart

by Joanne Troppello

Peace is a beautiful thing. When you don’t have peace – and know what it feels like and how all encompassing it can be – it’s something that you truly miss. I’ve experienced God’s peace in my life so many times through the years. I’ve also experienced the lack of God’s peace in my life. Yet, that lack was not because God didn’t want to give me His peace. It was because I was too focused on the problems, relational issues, and other struggles that I couldn’t experience God’s peace during those times.

I am a huge advocate of memorizing scripture because there have been many times when the Holy Spirit has brought the right verse to my mind in the right moment that helped me stay focused on God and not the issues.

“Your Word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.” – Psalm 119:11 (NKJV)

The world today is in upheaval, social unrest, evil is running rampant, and life is more uncertain than ever. However, God’s peace is strong in my heart and that is what gets me through each day.

Ten Verses on Finding God’s Peace in Life

If you are searching for God’s peace, consider reading the following ten verses and picking a few to memorize so you can recite them to yourself when you need to be reminded that God is your one, true source of peace that surpasses all understanding. The more you memorize God’s Word, the more you open yourself to hearing from the Holy Spirit as He brings the right verse to your mind when you need to hear it.

1. Peace Surpassing All Understanding

“…and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:7 (NKJV)

2. Peace So You Won’t Be Afraid

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” – John 14:27 (NKJV)

3. Peace that God is in Control

“…casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you…” – I Peter 5:7 (NKJV)

4. Peace for Sanctification and Holy Living

“Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” – I Thessalonians 5:23 (NKJV)

5. Sowing Peace in Your Life

“Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.” – James 3:18 (NKJV)

6. Letting God’s Peace Rule Your Heart

“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.” – Colossians 3:15 (NKJV)

7. Pursuing Peace with All People

“Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord…” – Hebrews 12:14 (NKJV)

8. Filled with Hope, Joy, and Peace by the Holy Spirit

“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” – Romans 15:13 (NKJV)

9. Keeping Unity Through Peace in the Holy Spirit

“…endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” – Ephesians 4:3 (NKJV)

10. Experiencing Peaceful Sleep

“I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.” – Psalm 4:8 (NKJV)

“A life that abides in Christ, even when faced with hardships, also abides in His peace.” – Alyssa J. Howard
