Top Five Verses to Memorize and Recite - LOVE

When You Need More Love in Your Life

by J.M. Troppello

Love is powerful. It can change lives. God loved the world so much that He sent His own Son, Jesus to die for you and me (John 3:16). There are times in life when maybe you are in need of more love. Maybe you need a hug. You might need to allow God’s love to flow through you to others—even the unlovable.

Consider the following five verses that you should memorize and recite to help you in those instances.

1. Love is Most Important

And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. – I Cor. 13:13 (NKJV)

I Corinthians 13:1-13 is a well-known scripture about the greatest gift—love. It shows that without love, you are like a “clanging cymbal” (verse 1). I don’t want to be like a clanging cymbal, even though I am many times. Faith and hope are vital, yet love is the greatest gift.

2. Love Your Enemies

“But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you…” – Luke 6:27 (NKJV)

God calls you to love your enemies. That can be difficult, yet God still commands it. However, you can love those who are unlovable when you allow the Holy Spirit to let God’s love flow through you.

3. Love is Patient

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up…” – I Cor. 13:4 (NKJV)

Love is patient. I can attest to the fact that I am not always patient. However, if I want to follow God’s guidance, I need to be patient. That sounds difficult, yet God has been helping me through the years to become more patient and love others.

4. Love Bears All Things

“…bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” – I Cor. 13:7 (NKJV)

With God, you can bear all things through love. Now, we need to have boundaries and not allow people to walk all over us. However, it’s not impossible to love the unlovable when God works through you.

5. Love Never Fails

Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. – I Cor. 13:8 (NKJV)

You can rely on love never failing. Love can overcome hate. It can conquer many things and shed light on evil. Through the years, I’ve learned that showing love to others in my life makes me a better person. It’s helped me to grow spiritually. There is so much power in loving others. It can become the redeeming quality in your life and in the lives of others.

The Takeaway

God is love. He wants us to show love to those in this world, whether you think they deserve love or not. It’s important to remember that you and I are not always so lovable, yet God still sent Jesus to die for our sins.

Memorizing verses has helped me so much in life. Having these verses “recorded” in my mind and heart helps me to remember them in the right moments. Many times, it’s the Holy Spirit that brings them to mind in the exact moment that I need to be reminded of them.
