Book Review: Searching for Sara by Nona Mae King

by Joanne Troppello

Searching for Sara is book 1 of 2 in the Heart of the Blessed series by Nona Mae King. This sweet romance novel is 392 pages. It begins in London, England in February 1892. Then the storyline is set in America as the main character traveled by ship in September 1983. She arrived in NY on January 3rd 1894 and then traveled by train to Richmond, VA.

From the beginning, the main character, Sara Ann Little demonstrated her faith in God that He would show her the way—and be a guiding light. I truly related well to her faith. I believe the same.

I love the line Sara wrote in her journal: "I see now that You (God) used each 'yesterday' to ready me for this journey." This message was so relatable to the current circumstances in my life.

Reading Sara's journey toward a new life in America was inspiring. Even though she was an artist, I felt connected to this story as a writer and author following my own dreams.

This is another line from the book that really touched my heart: "If she wanted a change, she needed to embrace the journey with her whole heart."

Another line that touched me was when Sara told Mr. Lake, "I had to keep looking at the one day and let God keep the 'tomorrow's in His hand."

In a conversation with Mr. Lake, Sara responded to his question about whether her life as a servant was difficult. "God never asked me to go through a challenge I couldn't handle with Him beside me." That statement resonated with me. I have felt God's peace many times through life's storms.

There were so many great truths depicted in various statements like this one: "But God crafted a broader plan than what she could imagine. He always would. All He asked of her was trust and obedience."

I don’t usually post so many excerpts from statements in books that I review. However, this book was full of wonderful gems like the ones shared here. It was truly one of the best books I’ve read in a really long time.

The deeper storyline below the surface of the main plot was so intriguing. I loved this book so much. I know you'll love it too. I highly recommend it and hope you added it to your reading list.
