Book Spotlight:

Power Up by Jessie Mattis Earned Second Place in the Selah Awards

Jessie Mattis’ debut novel, POWER UP, recently earned second place in the Selah Awards for best middle grade novel. The Selah Awards, which are presented annually at the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference (BRMCWC), are awarded to books that are considered excellent within their genre in Christian publishing. POWER UP was published by Elk Lake Publishing, Inc in May 2019 and was written for anyone age 8+ who could use a powerful reminder of God’s goodness. Jessie’s second place Selah Award accompanies the first place Christian Indie Award, which was awarded to POWER UP earlier this year.

Jessie was also thrilled to walk away from the November 18, 2020 BRMCWC awards ceremony with a second place Foundations Award for her currently unpublished historical romance manuscript, A MESS OF DREAMS. The Foundations Awards recognize top writing of attending conferees.

About the Book

If God spoke directly to you, would you listen?

Would you still say “God is good” if tragedy came knocking on your door?

Join eleven-year-old Lexi on an eye-opening journey of empowerment and Holy-Spirit-discovery as she juggles family and friends, church and school. Sometimes the most important things in life unfold in the most unexpected ways.

“I believe God longs to partner with our kids. Power Up beautifully illustrates the wonderful adventure of getting to know the Holy Spirit and what can happen in our lives as we learn to obey his prompting. I’m excited to share Lexi’s journey with my children!” --Putty Putman, author of Live Like Jesus and Kingdom Impact, School of Kingdom Ministry founder
