Are You Seeking Revelation from God?
Finding True Happiness in the Counsel of the Savior
by J.M. Troppello
“Where there is no hope, there is no faith.” – William Gouge
Hope is so important. Without hope, you’ll likely lose your sense of purpose and direction in life. You can read in Proverbs 29:18, that without hope, people will perish. “The Hebrew word for revelation (hope – used in other translations—revelation is used in the NKJV) speaks of revelatory vision, a word from God. Without God’s revelation of the Law, the people flounder. True happiness is discovered within the constraints of revelation in the counsel of the Savior.” [Source: TNSB]
I like that explanation from the Thomas Nelson Study Bible about Proverbs 29:18. True happiness is found in the counsel of God. When you try to find hope in things of the world, you’ll find things that cannot fully satisfy you like you can find with Jesus in your heart – and living each day seeking revelation from God.
Hoping in the Lord
I don’t have everything I want in life, but I have all that I need. God always provides for my needs. I have His peace that passes all understanding in my heart because I’m trusting in Him. Jeremiah 17:7 says that the man who trusts in the Lord is blessed.
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord. (Jer. 17:7, NKJV)
I’ve definitely experienced that blessing of God in my life. That blessing is not always with tangible things. Most of the time it’s with the intangible things like:
Peace no matter what I’m going through
Joy in my heart in all my experiences
Grace of God’s salvation in my life
Love of family and friends
Encouragement of others
Guidance from God’s Word
Those are just some of the intangible blessings that have overwhelmed my life in such a positive way – simply because I’ve put my hope and trust in the Lord each day.
If you are lacking hope in your life today, I would encourage you to take some quiet time and jot down at least three things you’re grateful for. Life is never perfect, but there is always something to be thankful for if you’re looking for it. Follow the wisdom of Psalm 46:10 and be still before God. Trust that He is in control. He has a plan. He knows what He’s doing.
God will overwhelm your life with His peace that truly does pass all understanding, but you need to take that first step and trust Him. Believe Him. Hope in Him.
