Can You See Blessings Even During the Rain in Your Life?

Learning to Cultivate More Thankfulness Each Day

by J.M. Troppello

It’s been raining a lot the last few weeks. My husband told me that he was watching the weather channel and the meteorologist said that due to all this rain, the leaves would stay on the trees longer and their Autumn colors would be richer. I had never even thought about that. I know that in the spring and summer months, rain is good to help the grass, flowers, and vegetable garden grow and flourish. However, hearing about the rain being good for the tree leaves in the fall made me stop and think.

“If every moment is sacred, and if you are amazed and in awe most of the time when you find yourself breathing and not crazy, then you are in a state of constant thankfulness, worship, and humility.” – Bernice Johnson Reagon

Can you see the blessings in your life even through the storms and rainy days?

That’s a question I’ve been asking myself lately. My husband and I have had discussions on this. I’ve talked to other family members about it. When things are tough, it’s hard to be thankful. Yet, cultivating thankfulness in your life—even when and especially when it’s ‘raining’—is a powerful tool.

Seeing the Beautiful Autumn Colors

Ever since my husband mentioned to me about the leaves, I’ve made sure to look at all the trees whenever I’m driving or we’re in the car together on the weekends. It really was true! The leaves have stayed on the trees longer. Their colors have been richer and more beautiful than last year.

“Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn, or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude.” – Denis Waitley

Are you living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude?

I’m asking myself that question as well. I know it’s not possible to be living each minute in a loving attitude that showers everyone around you with grace and gratitude. However, isn’t that something beautiful to strive for—through the help of the Holy Spirit at work in your life each day? It’s definitely something I’m striving for.

18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (I Thess. 5:18, NKJV)

Paul shared that believers should give thanks in everything. He wrote that living a life of gratitude was God’s will. Again, it’s something that, as a Christian, you should want to strive for. Not every moment will be perfect. It can’t be. You and I are flawed beings. As Christians, we’re saved by grace through faith. Yet, that’s only the beginning of your spiritual walk.

Each day should be a journey of cultivating gratitude simply for being alive. You have another day to get closer to God. You have another day to help those around you. This day is a new day to share the love of God.

This is still a life lesson I’m learning. I hope you can join me in cultivating gratitude in your life each day. Doing that simple thing in your life, can help you grow closer to God and those around you. Having a heart of thanksgiving can enable you to see others as God sees them.
