Do Not Fear for God is With You

Cultivating a Deeper Walk of Faith Each Day

by J.M. Troppello

Faith is a pivotal part of a Christian’s life. I love this statement from Woodrow Kroll. “With the power of God within us, we need never fear the powers around us.” That is a simple, yet powerful truth. You don’t have to be fearful when you know that the power of God is working in your life each day.

Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
(Isaiah 41:10, NKJV)

Isaiah 41:10 is one of my favorite verses to read when I need to remind myself not to be afraid. God is with me. I don’t have to fear or be dismayed. God is strengthening me each day. He is my help in time of need. He will uphold me with His righteous right hand.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (II Timothy 1:7, NKJV)

Another one of my favorite verses to recite whenever I am afraid is found in II Timothy 1:7. God hasn’t given me a spirit of fear. However, He has given me a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind. That’s a beautiful thought to hang onto, especially when you are filled with anxiety.

The Thomas Nelson Study Bible (TNSB) states, “The Holy Spirit is the One who gives us spiritual gifts and empowers us to use them. God’s Spirit does not impart fear or cowardice, but power, love, and a sound mind, or ‘self-control.’ The Spirit imparts power for the various circumstances of ministry. The love the Spirit gives to us should be directed toward other individuals. Furthermore, as we use our spiritual gifts to build up the church, we should exercise self-control, using our abilities only at the appropriate times.”

That’s a lot to unpack. One important fact that I want to focus on is that the Holy Spirit imparts a sound mind or self-control. If you want to thrive and not simply just survive as a Christian, you need to fully embrace and rely on the Holy Spirit to give you that ‘sound mind’ or self-control’ daily. When anxiety begins to set in and you are overcome with fear, you don’t have to settle into those feelings. In fact, you shouldn’t live there.

God wants you to live as a victorious Christian. You can do that by accepting the impartation of the Holy Spirit – of power, love, and a sound mind. When you live in your own flesh, you’ll falter and merely survive this life. However, when you walk by faith and live in the spirit – and the guidance of the Holy Spirit – each day, you will be able to thrive as a believer in this life.

God wants you to live victoriously. Of course, that doesn’t mean you’ll never experience any problems. It simply means that you’ll live victoriously through your problems as you trust God to guide you and give you that power, love, and sound mind.

Are you living victoriously in power, love, and a sound mind?
