Embracing God’s Faithfulness, Presence, and Promises
God is Faithful, Always with You, and Fulfills His Promises
by J.M. Troppello
I read this encouraging word today from Dr. David Jeremiah.
“When looking backward, don’t dwell on your own failures and mistakes. They have been swallowed up in His grace. Recall His faithfulness! When looking around you, don’t be overwhelmed by the difficulties. Remember His presence! When looking ahead, don’t be afraid of the future. Revel in His promises!”
In this devotional, Dr. Jeremiah shared Psalm 48:14:
“For this God is our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even to the end.” (Psalm 48:14, NIV)
When you stop to think about that – that God is always with you – that should bring comfort to your heart. It brings comfort to my heart. So many things are happening in our world. Life is so uncertain. Yet, I am certain that God is faithful, always with me, and fulfills His promises.
God is faithful. It says so in the Bible. Some may scoff at that in unbelief. However, I have seen SO many times in my many years as a Christian that God is indeed faithful.
9 “Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments; 10 and He repays those who hate Him to their face, to destroy them. He will not be slack with him who hates Him; He will repay him to his face. 11 Therefore you shall keep the commandment, the statutes, and the judgments which I command you today, to observe them. (Deut. 7:9-11, NKJV)
God is my guiding light. He hears my prayers. God has answered many prayers. Some the way I thought. Others, not as I expected. Some, not answered at all. Yet, many times, those unanswered prayers would not have been blessings if God had answered them. I know He was faithful in the past. He is faithful in the present. He will be faithful in the future.
Once you’ve felt God’s presence, it’s something that you begin to long for. There are days when I don’t actually feel God’s presence, but I know He’s there with me.
And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” (Exodus 33:14, NKJV)
Sometimes, I feel His presence more than other times – because I am seeking out communion with Him. Yet, the beautiful fact is that God is always with me. He is always with you. He is always working, even when it doesn’t seem like He’s working in your life. Trust Him and lean into His comforting presence in your life.
Several portions of this passage of scripture stick out to me. “God is faithful” from verse 18. “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us” from verse 20. God “establishes” and “anoints” in verse 21. God has “sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee” in verse 22.
17 Therefore, when I was planning this, did I do it lightly? Or the things I plan, do I plan according to the flesh, that with me there should be Yes, Yes, and No, No? 18 But as God is faithful, our word to you was not Yes and No. 19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us—by me, Silvanus, and Timothy—was not Yes and No, but in Him was Yes. 20 For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us. 21 Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, 22 who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee. (2 Cor. 1:17-22, NKJV)
You can feel God’s comfort through the power of the Holy Spirit working in your life. Hold on to the promises of God. He is faithful to complete the work He began in you (Phil. 1:6).
Rest in God’s Comfort
Yes, life is uncertain. Yet, you can take comfort in the fact that God is faithful, His presence is always with you, and His promises are yes and amen! Rest in His comfort today.
