How to Fill Your Spiritual Love Tank

So You Can Love Others Unconditionally

by J.M. Troppello

Loving others can be easy and hard. It’s easy when you need to love people you consider ‘lovable’ like those in your inner circle of family and friends. Of course, everyone is human. Even those people can get on your nerves at times.

However, it’s more difficult to love people who live to annoy others. Those individuals are still loved by God because He loves the whole world. He sent His Son, Jesus to die on the cross to reconcile everyone—who accepts His gift of salvation—to Him. But I’m not going to lie. It can be very difficult to love those people.

Consider the following ways that you can fill your spiritual love tank so that you can love others unconditionally.

1. Practice P.R.W. Daily

Spiritual growth is an important factor in being able to love others as God loves them. The catalyst for spiritual growth is praying, reading the Bible, and worshipping God daily. There won’t be exponential spiritual growth without P.R.W. each day.

2. Make a Request

Ask God to help you love others unconditionally. Pray that He pours His love on you to overflow on to others that you encounter daily. Be prepared to be tested in this area. I’ve prayed this prayer before, and God has helped me love those people in my life who annoy me. After praying this prayer—it could be coincidental—but it seemed like God put me in situations where I really had to put loving others unconditionally into action.

3. Memorize Love Verses

Memorize verses specific to the message of loving others and showing them forgiveness and the grace of God. Recite these verses to yourself daily and as you need encouragement to love others unconditionally.

I Cor. 13:4-8 – Love patiently

Phil. 2:3 – Act unselfishly

Mt. 6:14-15 – Forgive others

Of course, you need to set boundaries in your life. Stay continually in prayer. Love others, not the sin. But you need to speak the truth in love (Eph. 4:15) and walk as the Holy Spirit directs. The main foundation of the Christian faith is love. Read the love chapter, I Corinthians 13 if you need a refresher on that topic.

4. Cultivate Support

Surround yourself with others who are on a similar journey as you’re on. Share your new mission to love others unconditionally with people you trust like those in your small group, supportive friends and family members, and others like your spouse. These individuals can rally around you when you need encouragement, support, and accountability on your journey. You can support them as well in their spiritual journeys.

Fill Your Spiritual Love Tank

Implement the following 4 steps into your daily journey if you want to fill your spiritual love tank so that you can love others unconditionally. That can only be accomplished when you trust in the power of the Holy Spirit to be your grace, peace, and strength each day.

  • Practice P.R.W. Daily
