How to React When Life Throws You a Curve Ball
4 Tips to Help You Navigate Through the Craziness of Life
by J.M. Troppello
When life throws you a curve ball, how do you react?
The younger me would have been more unstable and overly emotional. The 'me' from today is really trying to stay focused on the fact that God is in control—even though I know a specific family situation can get explosive at any minute.
Consider the following four ways that you can stay calm, cool, and collected when you need to respond to the curve balls in life.
1. Remain Calm
I’m generally a calm person. I don’t like drama. However, I like it when things go smoothly. When they don’t I have a tendency to freak out. Now, I’ve gotten a lot better through the years with handling this issue in a mature way. God has helped me so much in this area.
Then the Lord said to him, “Peace be with you; do not fear, you shall not die.” (Judges 6:23, NKJV)
God spoke those words to Gideon when he was fearful. When life seems out of control, the most important thing to remember is that you need to try to remain calm. Trust that God has everything in control.
2. Stay Focused
Try to keep your eyes on the Lord and not on the curve ball—or issue that is making you feel scared, unstable, or worried. I know this is difficult, especially if the situation is serious.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. (Matthew 6:34, NKJV)
However, worrying is not going to change anything. Keep your eyes on God and know that He loves you. He will make a way where there seems to be no way.
3. Speak Scripture
If you’ve been reading my articles, you likely know that I encourage every Christian to read, study, and memorize the Bible. That is a huge factor in whether or not you will live a victorious life in Christ. Living as a victor has nothing to do with prosperity or everything always working out.
Because not everything always works out. Life doesn’t work that way.
Yet, as a victor in Christ, you know for certain that you are saved. You are only on this earth for a short time compared to all eternity. You know that the Holy Spirit is your comforter. God will guide you.
Start speaking God’s Word over your life and situation. That can change everything in regard to your mindset and level of faith—which will help you get through to the other side of the obstacle.
4. Pray Harder
Prayer is another crucial component of living a victorious life. If you don’t pray, you are seriously lacking in the power supply department. When you pray, God can change your mindset. He can change your heart. He will open your eyes to see things from His perspective in your life.
Prayer can move mountains. It can tear down strongholds.
Never give up on the power of prayer.
Take the time to be still and know that God is God, and He is in control.
Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! (Psalm 46:10, NKJV)
Being still before God will open your eyes to see this curve ball as an opportunity for Him to work His power and glory on this earth. Trust in Him today.
Staying Calm When Life Seems Out of Control
I’m trying to follow my own advice today.
I know I need to remain calm no matter what. I have to stay focused on the fact that God is in control. I must speak out the scriptures to help me increase my faith. I have to pray harder.
I hope my openness can help you to stay strong and remain calm when life throws you a curve ball.
