Succeeding Against All Odds
Finding Inspiration from Those Who’ve Succeeded
by J.M. Troppello
J.K. Rowling wrote one of the most successful book series (Harry Potter) in modern history. However, before achieving this level of success, she “was broke, living on welfare, and supporting a child on her own.” She wrote the first book in the series within a 7-year period. When searching for a publisher, she was rejected by all the 12 major publishers.
Sylvester Stallone is the writer and star of the well-known Rocky movie series. He “was so poor at one point that he had to sell his dog for $40 just to buy food. After receiving two Oscar bids for his script and performance in Rocky, he was able to buy the dog back from the new owner for $15,000!”
Those are just two examples of famous people who found success after living a long road of failure in their lives.
Right now, I’m working hard to succeed in my writing career. I’m focusing on learning something new each day. I want to identify areas in my writing where improvement is necessary to increase reader engagement. I’m writing multiple articles per day for various platforms like Medium.com and Vocal.Media.
This learning journey can be overwhelming. It has been difficult yet rewarding as I’ve seen improvement and small signs of success.
Maybe you’re on a journey of self-discovery. You might want to learn new things and grow as an emotionally and spiritually mature adult. However, obstacles may be hindering your success.
If that’s you, take heart.
Life is a journey.
We are all works in progress.
God never said life would be all rosy.
Focus on the good things in your life. Embrace the small victories. Learn from the failures. Connect with other people who have succeeded on a similar path that you’re on. Learn from their mistakes. Mirror their drive to succeed.
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13, NKJV)
As you work towards your goals, remember that your strength comes from Jesus. However, true success will come when you commit your path to the Lord.
“Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.” (Psalm 37:5, NKJV)
It’s important to maintain a positive mindset. Focusing on the negative will only hinder your progress. Don’t give in to depression when you fail. Write down your goals (immediate, short-term, and long-term) so they are in writing or on a goal planning app. That can help you have accountability. Get an accountability partner to help you stay focused on your goals so you can improve your chances of success. And never, ever give up on trying to achieve your dreams!
