3 Habits that Improved My Life

Developing Healthy Habits to Change Your Life

by J.M. Troppello

Habits can drag you down or lift you up. Sometimes you easily fall into bad habits, without even realizing how you got there. According to Entrepreneur.com, “A recent study proved that it takes 66 days on average to form a new habit and that some people can take up to 250 days to form the same habit.”

“Our daily decisions and habits have a huge impact upon both our levels of happiness and success.” – Shawn Achor

I’ve developed some bad habits in my life. I’ve also developed some good, healthy habits. I’ve had to unlearn some of those negative habits. I’ve had to continue to work on cultivating those good habits. The following 3 habits have improved my life.

1. Spirituality

The biggest change that happened in my life occurred when I became a Christian as a teenager. I am saved and know I’ll be in Heaven one day. After getting saved, I had to learn how to develop positive spiritual habits. Those habits are the following:

  • Prayer life

  • Bible study

  • Worship life

Growing as a Christian has happened in my life because I have cultivated a healthy prayer life, learned how to dive deeper into studying the Bible, and developed a strong worship life devoted to praising God. There have been ups and downs in this spiritual journey. However, growing my spiritual life has definitely made me into a better person.

2. Emotional IQ

I developed some bad habits and one of those included giving into my emotions too much rather than growing into a more emotionally mature person. It was a long road – years not just days – to cultivate positive emotional maturity habits.

“We first make our habits, and then our habits make us.” – John Dryden

I love that quote from John Dryden. It takes time to form habits, but once you form them, they can make you into a different person. Hopefully, those habits you’re forming in your life are positive and make a good impact on your life.

3. Physicality

I’ve recently felt the need to make more positive changes in my life. One of those changes is to switch up my daily schedule and get up earlier each day. I felt that I could be more productive if I went to bed a bit earlier and get up earlier. That may not seem like an earth-shattering change to you. However, it’s only been two weeks and I’ve already seen some positive changes in my life. I’ve gotten more productive in my daily exercise and have seen more productivity in my work projects.
