4 Reasons Why Self-Reflection is Good for Your Life

Enhance Your Life Through Self-Refection Each Day

by J.M. Troppello

Self-Reflection is good for my soul. It has helped me grow closer in my walk with God and in how I’ve learned to interact better with other people—because I’ve gotten to know myself in a deeper way. When you know yourself better – your strengths and weaknesses – it’s easier to interact in a more mature way with others. Consider the following four reasons why self-reflection is good for your life.

“There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that’s your own self.” – Aldous Huxley

1. Spiritual Growth

As a Christian, you should be embarking on a journey of self-discovery because God has called you to a life of growing in your faith and becoming more spiritually mature. Your spiritual life shouldn’t be stagnant. God works through all the circumstances in your life to discipline you and help you to grow as a Christian. It’s not always easy to embrace God’s discipline. However, in those times when I embraced God’s discipline, I experienced spiritual fruit.

2. Emotional Health

Self-reflection has helped me become a more emotionally mature person. As I’ve gotten to know myself better – and seen areas in my life that needed to change – I’ve learned how to handle various situations in a better way. Instead of reacting like an irrational mess, I’ve learned how to focus on taking that emotional ‘time out’ so that I could behave in a more mature manner.

3. Better Relationships

Becoming more emotionally mature through self-reflection has helped me to cultivate healthier relationships in my life. I’ve learned how to understand people better and identify why they act the way they do – because I’d learned about different personality types. When you get to know the different types of personalities people have, that can greatly enhance your relationships – and how you respond to them more maturely.

4. Enhanced Mindset

Your mindset can help you move forward or backward in life. When you practice self-reflection, you can enhance your mindset by learning how to focus on the positive things in life rather than the negative things. It’s not easy to cultivate and maintain a positive mindset. However, I’ve done that through reading, studying, memorizing, and applying the Bible to my life daily. Meditating on God’s Word has significantly impacted my Christian walk in the most positive way possible.

Get Started Self-Reflecting

5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you [a]are disqualified. (2 Cor. 13:5, NKJV)

Change your life by using self-reflection each day. That simple act can become a game-changer in your life. Embarking on a journey of self-discovery can impact your spiritual life in a positive way and increase your faith in God. It can become an invaluable resource to improve your emotional health so that you grow into a more mature individual. Self-reflection can help your relationships with others become more loving and respectful. When you take time to reflect daily, you’ll learn how to develop a more positive mindset.
