4 Tips on Improving Your Mindset in the New Year

Find What Inspires You to Be Your Best Self

by J.M. Troppello

Your mindset is an important factor in how well or not well you achieve your goals. If you are stuck in a cycle of negativity, you’ll be less likely to get up and go each day in an effort to accomplish something productive.

“You cannot make progress without making decisions.” – Jim Rohn

I love that quote from Jim Rohn. It’s so crucial to make decisions if you want to progress in all aspects of your life. Some of those decisions may take more thoughtful deliberation than others. Hopefully, one of those decisions involves deciding to cultivate a more positive mindset in this new year.

Consider the following ways to improve your mindset as you find what inspires you to be your best self.

1. Create an Action Plan

Don’t just think about it. Write down your goals. Ask yourself why you want to have a changed mindset in the new year. If you want to increase the chances of success in improving your mindset in the future, you need to have goals in place and define Key Performance Indicators (KPI). That will enable you to improve your evaluation process on the success or failure of your new mindset action plan.

2. Learn from the Past

Identify what went wrong with your mindset this past year. Ascertaining what caused you to fall back into negative thoughts can help you to learn from the past and improve your mindset in the present and the future. Learning from your past can enable you to make adjustments as you grow in your journey.

3. Find Your Inspiration

What inspired you last year, last month, and a few days ago may not inspire you today and as you move through this new year. Take the time to find out what makes you tick. Dig deep to understand things that you are passionate about. Focusing on what inspires you in this new year can help you to remain more positive and productive in 2022.

4. Embrace Change

You need to be flexible during this process of improving your mindset in the new year. You’ll have good and bad days. You’re not going to be perfect. No one is. Embrace change and offer yourself and others grace as you go through this learning process.

Improve Your Mindset This Year

Make this new year better by cultivating a more positive mindset. Implement these four tips into your daily agenda so that you can increase your productivity.

  • Create an Action Plan

  • Learn from the Past

  • Find Your Inspiration

  • Embrace Change

“I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions.” – Stephen Covey

You might need to reread that statement from Stephen Covey. I did as I wrote this article. You see, I’m on a similar journey of improving my mindset in this new year. I want to increase my productivity and accomplish more of my goals. I don’t want to be stagnated in indecision and negativity. I agree with Stephen Covey. I am not a product of my circumstances but I’m a product of my decisions—and so are you.
