Are You Holding Fast Your Confession of Hope?

For God Who Promised is Forever Faithful and True

by J.M. Troppello

I was out doing some errands this afternoon. On my way back home, a car pulled out right in front of me and nearly hit my car. Thankfully, I braked in time and the person behind me hadn’t been too close to hit the rear of my car. That shook me up a bit. But it reminded me of so many times in my life, God saved me from near accidents. I remembered times when my husband and other family members were saved from harm as well.

This remembrance of God’s protection immediately brought me to a time of thankfulness and praise for all that God has done in my life and all He’s protected me from. God is so good.

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. (Hebrews 10:23, NKJV)

I love this verse from Hebrews 10:23. It’s a beautiful message of encouraging the believer to hold fast the confession of their hope without wavering. Why? Because God is faithful.

This verse is part of the passage of Scripture from Hebrews 10:19-25.

19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness[a] to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and having a High Priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:19-25 NKJV)

This passage is titled Hold Fast Your Confession. As a believer, you are righteous now because of Christ’s righteousness. Just think about for a second how holy God is. Yet, through the blood of Christ, you now have continual access to God the Father. That’s so beautiful to remind yourself of today!

Jesus is the High Priest of believers. He was tempted yet did not sin. He can relate to how you and I are tempted daily. He perfectly represents believers before the Father. You can read more about that in Hebrews 4:14-15. Paul also urges believers to hold fast their confession in those two verses from chapter four as well.

Again, I will confess that God is good. He is always faithful. He knows what is best for my life. He knows what is best for your life. As a believer, you have new life in Christ. You have the hope of glory in Heaven in the future.

I hope you will take a moment today to think about the goodness of God and all that He’s done – and is doing – in your life. Praise God!
