Have You Checked Your Owner’s Manual Lately?

Fine Tune Your Spiritual Engine with God's Word

by J.M. Troppello

Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
(Ps. 119:105, NKJV)

God's Word is indeed a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. In my daily devotional today, I read about how the Christian should look at the Bible as their 'owner's manual.’

10 But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, perseverance, 11 persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra—what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me. 12 Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 13 But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Tim. 3:10-17, NKJV)

All of God's Word is inspired of God. It's profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness. Have you been using God's Word for those four things? I have, but I can always do better in the area of studying God’s Word.

Understanding These 4 Things

Doctrine is the teaching that you need to live your life by. It states God’s truths and what is not true. This is where you need to value God’s Word as the light in your life.

Reproof is when you read the Bible and are convicted by the Holy Spirit. Pay attention to the leading of the Spirit. Don’t disobey the Spirit’s leading. I’ve disobeyed before. Getting off track and then getting back on track was not fun.

Correction is where you obey God’s conviction and set things right in your life. It’s when you decide to stop doing things your way and start doing things God’s way.

Instruction is when you bow to God’s will in your life. You surrender to His teaching. You accept His guidance as your owner’s manual for your life.

Application is Key

Reading God’s Word daily is important. However, you need to dig deeper, study the truths you find there, and then apply them to your life. There will be no genuine growth in your spiritual life without the diligent application of God’s Word daily. Application means that you desire to live out God’s truths in your life.

Are you using the owner’s manual for your life?
