How to Trust God

Through all the Chaos in the World Today

by J.M. Troppello

Unless you’ve been stuck under a rock for the last two years, you know how chaotic things have gotten. So much has happened and it seems like time has flown by. Yet, it also seems that chaos and uncertainty are the only two things that have remained.

That is such an unsettling thought to me.

However, one important truth has resonated with me so much during these last two years. I can trust God throughout all the chaos in the world today. The following truths from the Word of God have helped me recently more than ever before in my 33 years as a Christian. Hopefully, they can help you too to trust God throughout all the chaos in the world today.

1. Jesus is Consistent

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. (Hebrews 13:8, NKJV)

If you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you can rely on the truth that He is consistent. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is your rock that will not falter or change.

Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. (Romans 8:34, NKJV)

I know this verse from Romans 8:34. Yet, I don’t think it’s really sunk in to my mind and heart until recently. Jesus is at the right hand of God, and He is making intercession for you and me. Just thinking about Jesus praying for me warms my heart. That should warm your heart as well.

2. The Holy Spirit is With You

Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. (John 16:7, NKJV)

Another comforting truth is that the Holy Spirit is with you at all times. He is your comforter and will guide you daily. As necessary, He will remind you of God’s Word and help you through each moment.

3. God is in Control

For the kingdom is the Lord’s, and He rules over the nations. (Psalm 22:28, NKJV)

Life may seem out of control, especially these days. Yet, you can trust that God is in control. I love this verse from Psalm 22:28. He rules over the nations. Nothing happens that He doesn’t know about before it even occurs. He knew what would happen these last two years. Nothing surprised Him. Take heart in that truth.

4. God’s Ways are Higher

8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. 9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8-9, NKJV)

I admit that there are times when I’ve gotten off track from what God has directed me to do. Yet, thankfully, the Holy Spirit gets my attention and helps me to realize that God’s ways are higher than my ways.

5. God’s Kingdom Matters More

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. (Matthew 6:33, NKJV)

I’ve written about this truth many times in recent years. The older I get and the closer I grow in the Lord, the more I’ve realized that God’s Kingdom in Heaven matters more than me building my own kingdom here on earth.

Trust in God Each Day

I know that it’s not always easy to trust in God, especially when life seems out of control. However, I’d rather have His peace that passes all understanding (Phil. 4:7), than be wallowing in fear, anxiety, and stress. Remember these truths:

  • Jesus is consistent

  • The Holy Spirit is with you

  • God is in control

  • God’s ways are higher

  • God’s Kingdom matters more

Do your best to trust God moment by moment. My basic steps for developing my faith and trust in God are to read the Bible daily, study it and apply it to my life, memorize scripture, pray daily, and worship the Lord.
