Small Annoyances

Can Lead to God Incidences

by J.M. Troppello

Fridays are busy days for me. I have work projects to get done. That’s my day to do the laundry. I get my Instacart grocery order delivered on Friday afternoons. We ordered a few things from Amazon this week as well. I like having Amazon Prime, so we get free shipping and faster delivery. Two of the packages were delivered earlier in the week. One package got delivered today.

I had just sat down to eat lunch when the Instacart shopper pulled into the driveway. She arrived earlier than I had expected from her original ETA showing on the app. I was so hungry since I had gotten a later start to eating lunch, but I needed to go outside to make sure she saw me motion her toward my door. Our address doesn’t show up on the GPS. I provided specific instructions, along with our GPS coordinates, in the directions on the app. However, people are not always sure that they’re at the right address – even though our house number is on the mailbox, by our front door, and I have a handwritten sign on our garage door.

I went outside and offered to help her bring the groceries inside. She seemed happy about the help since we have a lot of stairs up to our front door. We got into a conversation about the scenic view where I live. She loved it. We had a very nice chat.

That interruption ended up being a nice God incident.

I went back inside and put away the groceries that needed to go into the fridge and freezer. I left the rest of the stuff for after I could finish lunch. I sat back down again to finish my sandwich and then I got an alert on my phone that our Amazon order was one stop away. A minute later, I saw the Amazon delivery van pull into the driveway across the street. The delivery person dropped off a package by our neighbor’s garage and then drove off down the street.

I checked my notifications. It showed that our package was delivered. The photo showed that the package was placed by my neighbor’s garage. I shook my head and stopped eating. They messed up again. This is the fourth time in the last few months that Amazon delivered our packages across the street.

However, it ended up being another God moment today.

I went across the street, picked up our package, and introduced myself to our neighbor’s daughter. She had just moved in a few weeks ago to take care of her mother. Her father had passed away a few months ago. I had already met her parents when we’d moved in a few years ago. It was nice to chat for a bit with their daughter.

Embracing the God Moments

Yes, I finally did get to finish eating my lunch. However, those two interruptions in my day ended up being true God moments.

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
(Proverbs 3:5-6, NKJV)

I love when God interrupts my day for His appointments. Ok, so I may not be very excited about it at first. But, when I embrace those interruptions in my day, I can see how God is moving in every aspect of my life.

Have you ever had a God incident interrupt your day?
