You are Dearly Loved by God
Don’t Forget How Much He Loves You
by J.M. Troppello
I sat outside today during my afternoon break. The temperature was in the 70’s again. I’ve been enjoying the cooler weather the last few days. I read for a bit and then lounged back and closed my eyes. I nearly fell asleep out there. It was so relaxing.
The warm breeze felt so good. I took the moment to truly embrace the peace and quiet of the environment. I feel blessed to live in a rural area where I can relax outside in solitude.
At one point, I opened my eyes and stared up into the sky. It was so blue with a few white clouds, like a beautiful backdrop for the peaceful atmosphere. I took a photo of the sky, which I posted in the header for this article.
I stared at the sky for a while and wondered what God thought about me in that moment.
If you’ve been reading any of my columns lately, you know that I’ve been sharing how the stress of life has been getting to me. I’ve been doing my daily devotions. My husband and I have been doing devotions together at night too. Yet, it’s been hard for me to focus on my prayer time.
I’ve allowed that stress to create a distance between me and the Lord. I’ve felt like a failure lately in my work and other areas of my spiritual life that God has been working on in me. To be honest, I have felt unlovable to God recently.
Yet, in that moment, looking up at the sky, I imagined God looking down at me and saying, “My daughter, rest in my presence. Everything will work out as it needs to work out.”
When you understand that God loves you no matter what, you no longer need to be afraid of your failings causing Him to love you less. If you could only truly know the depth of God’s love, you would have nothing to fear. – Faith Eng
This quote from Faith Eng is simple, yet profound. It truly resonated with me today. I need to remind my soul and spirit that God loves me no matter what.
I love the second sentence from Eng: If you could only truly know the depth of God’s love, you would have nothing to fear.
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. (I John 4:18, NKJV)
That statement from Faith Eng came from an article she wrote, 20 Inspiring Bible Verses About God’s Amazing Love for You. One of the verses she included was I John 4:18.
I’ve memorized this verse before. The Holy Spirit has brought it to mind many times. However, I’m so thankful that I had this special moment sitting outside today, when I stared up at the sky—and imagined God speaking to me.
Finding this article and reading those words from Faith Eng and that verse from I John 4:18 helped to snap me out of my sad mood as well. I need to take this message to heart and not let go of the truth of it.
God loves me.
I may have to remind myself of this and repeat those three words again and again.
I had a good conversation with my husband about this very subject when he came home from work today. I shared how I’ve been feeling for the last few weeks. Ironically, he had been feeling the same way about his relationship with God.
If you feel like you’re unlovable to God, take it from me that you are dearly loved. Don’t forget that. Memorize I John 4:18 and keep it close to your heart.
