Are They Really Worth Your Time?

by Joanne Troppello

That is a question I have been asking myself lately. Am I wasting time with the things I invest my time in? As more time passes in 2021, I continue to feel as if time is short. Life is precious. I need to value the relationships and people in my life. I need to embrace each moment, even the difficult ones—which can be growing experiences if I allow the Holy Spirit to bring spiritual growth in my life.

Now, I’m not preaching here. I need to continually evaluate in my own life where I invest my time in and whether or not I’m getting a return on my investments. Sure, we want a return regarding financial investments. However, we should also want a return on other investments in our lives.

As Christians, we should be looking for personal growth and development, growth in our relationships, and a deeper commitment in our relationship with the Lord. I have found that there are things in life that I need to evaluate whether or not I should continue investing in.

One of those things is that I have been considering what types of programs I’ve been watching on TV, like watching too much news was not benefiting me. Rather, it was making me more depressed, rather than informed and motivated. Sure, it’s important to be informed and I do watch the news and conservative online platforms like Blaze TV. Yet now, I have put restrictions on the amount of time during the day or night that I invest into watching it.

Since I work from home, I like to have the TV on for background noise while I work. However, too much news was making me worse for the wear.

Some Things That We Should Question Investing Too Much Time In

The following list contains things that I am evaluating whether or not I am investing too much time in. I was investing too much time in was social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. Now, I only post a few times a day and I share the daily article for Mustard Seed Sentinel. It has been so refreshing since I’ve stopped spending so much time aimlessly scrolling through social media newsfeeds.

1. TV Shows

2. Social Media

3. News Programs

4. Playing Online Games

5. Watching YouTube Videos

Maybe you are investing too much time in some of these as well. You might have other items that could make your list. It would be well worth the time investment to evaluate where you are spending your own time these days.

I am tired of wasting time. I want to make a difference for God’s Kingdom. Now, I just need to take this new motivation and pray that God helps me make wise choices each day to continue to make proper investments of my time.

Are there any aimless activities you invest your time in daily?
