Peace that Passes All Understanding
The Lord will fight for you
by Joanne Troppello
“And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 4:7, NKJV)
Sometimes peace that passes all understanding seems out of our reach. However, we see in Exodus 14:14 that “The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”
That verse gives me comfort. Many times, I need to remind myself that it is God who wants to fight our battles for us. We simply need to hand over our cares to Him and He will take care of everything.
Yet, we need to take that first step of believing that God does have a plan for our lives, He wants to help us, and then we need to have the faith to open our hands and hand over the problem—and then NOT take it back again.
This is a lesson that I am learning every day.
I have been a Christian for 29 years since I was a young kid. I grew up in a Christian family and learned how to pray. Although, through the years into my adulthood, I have had many experiences that have seemed too hard to bear. Handing them over to God was the only way that I could survive the situation and make it through to the other side of the problem.
Other times, I’ve struggled to hand the problem over to God—many times snatching it out of His hands because he wasn’t answering it fast enough or I simply grew impatient and thought I could fix the situation faster and better.
Oh, how wrong I was in those instances. Yet, God is gentle so many times in reminding me to let it go. Maybe that’s one of the many reasons I love Disney’s “Frozen”; especially because of the song “Let it Go” that Elsa sings. That is so fitting for this type of situation.
God wants us to freely trust Him to handle all the mountains that we cannot move in our lives. I’m definitely stronger in my walk with Lord through all these years. However, I still have so far to go in continually learning to let it go and trust Him to take care of my problems and answer prayers in His perfect timing.
Back to the passage from Phil. 4:1-7, we are encouraged to rejoice in the Lord, worry for nothing, give everything over to God in prayer, and believe in thanksgiving that He is going to hear us and bring the right answer in his timing.
When we do all these things, THEN God will bring that “peace of God that passes all understanding” into our lives. That peace will “keep our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
What are you believing God for today? Are you ready to let it go and trust that God is in control?
