Improve Your Chances of Achieving Your 2022 Resolutions

4 Steps to Help You Succeed in Your Goals for This New Year

by J.M. Troppello

I have not accomplished every New Year’s resolution that I ever made. Big surprise there! I’m sure you haven’t accomplished all your resolutions either. However, I have found that I have been more successful in accomplishing my resolutions and other goals during the year when I have a concrete thought process and plan in mind.

“Don’t make resolutions without an action plan. The secret to success is right in your hands.” – J. Allen Shaw

Consider the following 4 steps that can help you achieve your New Year’s resolutions and improve your goal achievement rate throughout the rest of the year.

1. Vision Board

Use an actual vision board or a vision board app like My Vision Board, MyGoals, Visualize, VISUAPP to help craft your concept of what your resolutions are for 2022. Writing down your goals or creating images of what you want to achieve will increase your chances of achieving them.

2. Define Your Why

You must know your why if you want to accomplish anything big in life. If you don’t identify your why, you won’t have any reason to fall back on when it becomes difficult to keep on track with achieving your resolutions.

“Why do New Year’s Resolutions fail? Mainly, because they are only a statement, or what we wish for in the coming year. There are usually no action plans, no deadlines, no backup plans. Sometimes they are unrealistic resolutions, with no other thought or plans beside the statement.” – Catherine Pulsifer

3. Choose Wisely

Create resolutions that you are passionate about—otherwise, you will likely lose interest in trying to accomplish them before February rolls around. Deciding on resolutions that get you excited will help you to stay on track when obstacles come in your path and hinder you from succeeding.

4. Action Plan

Create a step-by-step action plan to help define the best path toward success in this new year. Include Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) so you can have a concrete way to evaluate your progress. Stay open to changing the way you achieve resolutions if necessary. Add an accountability partner as part of the action plan.

  • Vision Board

  • Define Your Why

  • Choose Wisely

  • Action Plan

You may be someone who doesn’t make New Year’s resolutions because it seems like they never stick throughout the year. Maybe you still make them even if you end up forgetting about them by springtime. You might be someone who has a concrete action plan in mind and always achieves your goals. If that’s you, more power to you.

But, if you’re having trouble accomplishing goals, follow these four steps. They can help you to increase your probability of keeping your New Year’s resolutions this year. Do you make New Year’s resolutions, or do you think they are a waste of time?
