Life Hacks: 8 Benefits of Using Walmart+

Use This Life Hack to Save Money When Grocery Shopping

by J.M. Troppello

I’m always looking for new ways to save money – especially with inflation continuing to rise. I’ve been saving money using Walmart+ to shop for my weekly groceries. As of the writing of this article (11/29/22), I have saved $97 and 10 hours of shopping in the store by using Walmart+ for two months. That may be a small amount of money, but it is still money saved – and hours saved not having to shop for my order.

1. Rewards Center

You can receive Walmart Rewards on eligible items that you purchase online and in-store. So far, we’ve earned $1.50 in rewards. However, it probably could have been more, but I have forgotten to check through the eligible reward items when I’ve input my weekly orders.

2. Smart Scanner

With the Shop Smart Scanner, you can check prices and availability when you’re in the store. When you are shopping, you can scan each item as you place them in your shopping cart. This will save you time at the checkout counter when you go to the self-checkout section of the store since all the items are already scanned into your account. You simply scan the QR code at checkout and won’t have to scan all the items added to your cart. Then pay for your order and you’re done!

3. Referral System

You can earn a referral reward when you refer someone to sign up for Walmart+. When this person uses your referral code, both you and this individual will receive $20 off a future order with Walmart+. It’s easy to copy and share your link with others.

4. Video Streaming

Walmart+ has partnered with Paramount+. With your Walmart+ membership, you can get the Paramount+ (Essential Plan) for free. However, I would like to note that this plan includes commercials. If you sign up for this promotion, you cannot upgrade to the higher paid plan where you receive Paramount+ commercial free.

5. Free Delivery

This is my favorite part of being a Walmart+ member. You can get free delivery from the local Walmart store to your home. Unless they’re really booked up due to the holidays, like on Thanksgiving, you can go into the app and order groceries for same-day delivery. Just remember that they have a $35 order minimum to receive free delivery as a Walmart+ member.

6. Free Shipping

This is my second favorite benefit of Walmart+ membership. When you order items from Walmart.com or through the app, you get free shipping – with no order minimum – as a Walmart+ member. However, this benefit does not apply to freight, oversized, and marketplace items. I was using the Walmart+ app a few weeks ago and one vitamin supplement item was not in stock for free delivery with my regular weekly order. So, it was then added to the queue to be shipped to my house for free.

Before we signed up for Walmart+, we used the Walmart app to place our order and went to the store to pick it up with free pick up. You don’t need to be a Walmart+ member to receive free pick-up. However, if an item was not available (when we were not Walmart+ members, I would have to remove the unavailable item from my order since I didn’t want to pay extra for shipping that one item to my house.

7. Member Fuel Prices

Walmart+ offers members savings on fuel prices. You can check on the app to find gas stations near you that offer you discounts on fuel. You can save up to $0.10 per gallon at over 14,000 gas stations in the Walmart+ network.

8. Exclusive Access

As a Walmart+ member, you can enjoy exclusive access to special prices and product releases – such as online Black Friday deals and much more. It’s important to note that this access is not available to trial members who are trying Walmart+ for free for 30 days. Also, these items are only available at these special prices while supplies last.

Get Started Today!

If you’ve heard about Walmart+ and weren’t sure if you should sign up, get started today as a Walmart+ member. I have been using this service and really like it. I wouldn’t recommend it unless I found great value in it.

There are two other ways that I’ve also been saving money/and earning while shopping with Walmart+.

  • Swagbucks – I am a Swagbucks member and love this app as well! A few weeks after we started using Walmart+, my husband discovered that we could order from Walmart+ (through the Swagbucks app) and receive 1-4% cash back (1 SB/Dollar) on our order. Not all items purchased are eligible for the cashback (SB). Just remember to place your Walmart order through the Swagbucks app so that they can track the items and credit SB to your account. You will need to wait 30 days to receive those SB in your Swagbucks account. We’ve done this three times already and have about 600 points that will be credited to our account soon, weekly. Once that first credit is applied to our account, I’ll get SB credits applied weekly, just for shopping with Walmart. Swagbucks has about 500 stores in their network that you can shop at online and get SB credited to your Swagbucks account.

  • Crowdtap – With the Crowdtap app, you can take short surveys, sometimes only 1 question, and get points. Once you reach 1000 points, you can cash out for a $5 gift card. This past week, I cashed out 3 times and got three $5 Walmart gift cards. The card (link) gets emailed within 1-2 days. Then you can easily add it to your Walmart or Walmart+ account and receive a credit off your order. Crowdtap has gift cards to over 36 stores like Walmart, Amazon, and Target. They have a referral option where you get 100 points and the person you refer gets 100 points when they sign up for free. However, the referral links are not working now. I contacted tech support, and they are working on getting this fixed.

Do you belong to any rewards programs where you save money on groceries and other things you buy online?
