The Obeying of the Wind and the Waves
Poem inspired by Mark 4:35-41
by Joanne Troppello
At the coming of dusk the Master
and His disciples set out to sail.
With the crowd left behind,
the Master took to rest at the stern.
A sudden furious squall sliced
through the tranquil waters.
The Master slept as His disciples
were wrought with panic.
“Master, Master, care ye not we
drown?” They cried out in fear.
Rebuking the wind and the waves
He gave a powerful command,
“Quiet! Be still! Have ye no faith
my dear children?”
Then the obeying of the wind and
the waves restored the calm.
