How Wives Can Pray for Their Husbands

5 Things to Pray for Your Husband Each Day

by J.M. Troppello

I love to pray. I spend time in prayer in the morning and pray throughout the day. Yet some days, I allow myself to get so focused on the busyness, that I haven’t spent much time in prayer at all. I pray for my husband’s safety each day and his success at work. However, recently I’ve realized that I need to pray more specifically for him.

If you want to pray for your husband, consider the following 5 things that you can ask God for in your daily prayers for him.

1. Spiritual Growth

Don’t nag your husband. I learned this the hard way. At the beginning of our marriage, I was a nagging wife. That only got negative results like resentment from my husband. Instead, speak the truth in love when you are led by the Holy Spirit.

Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers. (I Peter 3:7, NKJV)

However, most of the time, you’ll need to pray for his spiritual growth. Never try to push him into it. That won’t work.

2. Faithful Heart

Pray that your husband’s heart remains steadfast in his commitment to the marriage vows he made to you. Ask God to help him be a faithful spouse. Pray that God will open your heart to know how to cultivate a deeper love for your spouse and how he can love you even more as well.

3. Physical Purity

Ask God to help your husband maintain physical purity within the boundaries of your marriage bed. Pray that he will have the strength through the power of the Holy Spirit to overcome temptations like lust, pornography, and sexual impurities.

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. (I Cor. 10:13, NKJV)

Ask God to deepen the physical and emotional intimacy between you and your husband so that you’re both fulfilled—and neither of you strays from your commitment to each other.

4. Favor at Work

Support your husband in his work endeavors. Encourage him for working diligently each day for your family. Pray that he has continual favor with his boss and any managers in the workplace. Ask God to help him stay strong and committed to working hard each day and maintaining his reliability.

5. Strong Integrity

Ask God to help your husband develop integrity and increased emotional intelligence so that your marriage relationship will flourish—and that he will interact maturely with others that he encounters each day. Integrity is so important, especially in our world today.

Prayer is so powerful. It is your gateway to communication with God. Pray for the following five things each day for your husband.
