Are You Excited About Your Heavenly Inheritance?

Kept By the Power of God Through Faith for Salvation

by J.M. Troppello

This Scripture from I Peter 1:3-9 was discussed in the devotional I read today by Dr. David Jeremiah. This entire passage is powerful since it discusses your salvation in Christ and the Heavenly inheritance that is “incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in Heaven for you.” That’s a comforting statement to me, and I embrace it enthusiastically. I know I am saved by grace through faith and will spend eternity with God in Heaven (Eph. 2:8-9).

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, 8 whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, 9 receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls. (I Peter 1:3-9, NKJV)

One statement (vs 5) from this passage truly resonated with me today: who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

I like the reference note from The Thomas Nelson Study Bible about this verse. It states that “God keeps His people safe from external attack and safe within the protective boundaries of His Kingdom.”

All humans are made in God’s image (Gen. 1:26-27). However, once you accept Jesus as your Savior and become a Christian, you are His child. You can take comfort in the fact that one day you will spend eternity with God in Heaven. While here on earth, you will be “kept by the power of God through faith for salvation…” The full impact of our salvation in Christ will be revealed one day.

Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one’s praise will come from God. (I Cor. 4:5, NKJV)

When the Lord comes again, He will bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the heart. God will be the ultimate judge of those who have not received Christ as their Savior. He will also judge His children according to their works and how they lived their life for the Kingdom.

Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. 2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. 3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. (I John 3:1-3, NKJV)

I hope you can rest today in the knowledge that God the Father has bestowed His infinite love upon you, as a child of God. The world does not know Him as His children do. Be at peace in that knowledge today!
