Experiencing Abundant Life in Jesus

Receiving This Beautiful Gift of Grace from the Lord

by Joanne Troppello

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” – John 10:10 (NKJV)

I use the Thomas Nelson Study Bible (NKJV) for my devotional time and studying God’s Word. When we focus on each word in the John 10:10 scripture verse, it’s amazing to see how Jesus came so that we can have life and have it more abundantly.

What is Abundant Life

It’s the zoe life that Jesus came to give to us. The word “zoe” originates in the Greek language and it means “life.” This beautiful gift of life comes directly from God. He breathed life into us. His Son gave His life for us. We have a richer spiritual life now because we are redeemed of God.

Who is Jesus?

He died to give us our salvation and eternal life. He is my Lord and Savior and the love of my life. He is the reason that I get up every morning to go about my day.

What is Salvation?

Salvation is the free gift of living in eternity with God in Heaven—and this is eternal life. What could be more beautiful than our God in Heaven, who loved us so much, but sin separated us from Him. You may not believe it, but God would have still sent His Son to die on the cross, even if you were the only person on Earth. God loves each and every one of us that much.

My Testimony of Salvation

When I was fourteen years old, I answered the call of salvation and made the decision to accept the teaching in the Bible that Jesus wanted to give me zoe lifeto be living the abundant life with Him while I was here on earth but then also someday in Heaven.

I grew up in a Christian home and started going to church shortly after I was born when my mom would bring me to church. When I first heard the question, what is salvation, I had no answers to it, but learned from Sunday School teachers and from my mom.

Even though I heard the teaching in the Bible, I needed to come to my own decision to accept the zoe life that Jesus was offering me—the same abundant life that He is offering to everyone—if we’d all just acknowledge our sins, ask forgiveness, and ask Jesus to come into our hearts. John 3:16 does tell us the story of Jesus dying for our sins.

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” – Romans 8:28 (NKJV)

There is such peace knowing that Jesus has this zoe life intended for us. Whether it’s raining in our lives, or it’s sunny, He has a plan, (Jer. 29:11-14) and He works all things out for our good.

That is abundant life—living each day, knowing that I am saved by God’s grace and living out the plan which He has forged for my life. His plan is one to prosper us and not to harm us…to give us a future and a hope.

I know that life is not all sunshine and rainbows. I have had my share of hard times and long years in a desert like experience where you are living one day at a time, wondering if God is even hearing your prayers. I know what it’s like to pray the same prayer for 15 years with no answer. Well, at least not the yes answer that I wanted. So far, just My child, please wait on me.

If you haven’t yet accepted Jesus Christ as your savior, I would encourage you to do so. It is the most important decision you’ll ever make in your life—even more important than deciding who you’re going to marry. Who is Jesus? He is the one who wants to give you zoe life. Won’t you accept His knocking on your heart today?
