Praying a Prayer of Faith and Seeing God Move in your Life
by Joanne Troppello
“If your prayers aren't impossible to you, they are insulting to God. Bold prayers honor God, and God honors bold prayers. God isn't offended by your biggest dreams or boldest prayers. The greatest moments in life are the miraculous moments when human impotence and divine omnipotence intersect. Ultimately the transcript of your prayers becomes the script of your life. Drawing prayer circles starts with discerning what God wants, what God wills.” (Mark Batterson)
Prayers of Faith Can Move Mountains
My husband and I are reading The Circle Maker, by Mark Batterson. I love the tag line of his book: Praying Circles Around Your Biggest Dreams and Greatest Fears.
This book has been amazing so far and has opened my eyes to realize that having faith in God is so completely connected with knowing how to pray. Romans 10:17 tells us that faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God.
We need to learn to pray the Word, but we also need to learn that if we don’t have the faith to believe for what we ask, that displeases God. Hebrews 11:6 teaches us that without faith it is impossible to please God.
One interesting fact I’ve learned from the book, The Circle Maker, is the legend of Honi, the circle maker. He was “a man bold enough to draw a circle in the sand and not budge from inside it until God answered his prayers for his people.”
Hebrews 11:2 teaches us that faith has a good report. Have you ever thought much about having faith as a mustard seed and how that applies to your life and faith? This topic of faith as a mustard seed has been prevalent in my thoughts in the last several years. This subject has opened my eyes to see how God wants us to have a simple faith in a powerful God.
The mustard seed is as small as a kernel of corn or a grain of wheat and yet that one seed (of the black seed variety) can grow into a shrub or tree that is 12 feet tall. This variety is found in Israel. According to scriptures in the Bible, Jesus told a parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field.” (Matt. 13:31) The other scripture is found in Matt. 17:20, “He replied, ‘Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as a small mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.’”
The first scripture references the kingdom of God which starts out small but grows very large. From 12 disciples, Jesus reached a world. The second scripture utilizes the image of the mustard seed and its small size and then immense growth to show us that even if we only have a little bit of faith, our belief in God can move mountains in our lives.
I would highly recommend you read The Circle Maker and begin your own journey of faith in God today. There is nothing in life that can compare to the journey of faith with the Lord. Not everything in life will be rosy, but God promises to always be with us through every trial and good thing that we face.
