5 Quotes from C.S. Lewis
Learning Through Living Each Day
by Veritas Vita 777
C.S. Lewis – Clive Staples Lewis – is a British author who wrote over 30 books. He was an atheist who became a Christian after many discussions with J.R.R. Tolkien, who was his Oxford colleague and friend – and author of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Becoming a Christian greatly impacted C.S. Lewis and his writing career. He shared his faith through his books. Some of the more well-known books include Mere Christianity, the Chronicles of Christianity, The Four Loves, and The Screwtape Letters. There is so much wisdom to be gained from C.S. Lewis. The following are 5 of my favorite C.S. Lewis quotes.
“There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.”
As a Christian, I can relate to this quote. A far greater treasure awaits me in Heaven than in any treasure that I can find here on earth. That fact affects my perspective on how I live my life—especially in the last few months – I’ve had a renewed focus on living for eternity.
“You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.”
I’ve always loved this quote! I’m a tea drinker and an avid reader. This quote totally resonates with me. It’s so important – especially with the busy holidays upon us – to find time for yourself to relax and regroup.
“I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.”
I only discovered this C.S. Lewis quote recently. It speaks to me because I agree that my faith ‘colors’ everything else around me. That’s how God wants us to live – looking at life through His eyes with love, forgiveness, and redemption.
“Love is not affectionate feeling, but a steady wish for the loved person’s ultimate good as far as it can be obtained.”
I love this quote because it reminds me to be others-focused. True, unconditional love is centered on a heart that puts others first. Jesus gave us the perfect example of that by how He gave up His life for all the world. Truly loving someone else means that you put their needs above your own.
“To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you.”
I’m thankful for my salvation. God has forgiven me for so much. I completely agree with this quote. God has forgiven the inexcusable in me. It’s a reminder to me to trust God each day to forgive others as He’s forgiven me.
