Are You Being Rooted and Grounded in Love?

Being Filled with the Fullness of God

by Veritas Vita 777

The love of Christ is beautiful, great, and beyond full comprehension. God’s fullness is a daily gift of grace, mercy, and redemption. This passage from Ephesians 3:14-21 is a great prayer to pray over your life and other’s lives that you are praying for.

14 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father [a]of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. 20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. (Eph. 3:14-21, NKJV)

Two of my favorite verses from this passage are 16 and 17. God is able to strengthen you with might through His Spirit in the inner man. That’s a powerful and beautiful truth at work in my life. It’s not my own strength that gets me through each day. It’s God’s strength at work in me that powers my day.

Verse 17 says that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love. The word dwell means to live. Christ dwells in your heart and roots you and grounds you in love. Being rooted and grounded in love is a huge factor in the Christian’s life. God loves you. He sent His Son to die for your sins. Jesus now lives in your heart. Then, you are expected to share that same love with others around you.

31 So, when he had gone out, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in Him. 32 If God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and glorify Him immediately. 33 Little children, I shall be with you a little while longer. You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come,’ so now I say to you. 34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:31-35, NKJV)

Jesus spoke the words in this passage from John 13:31-35 to love one another; as I have loved you. He continued to say that when you love others, people will know that you are His disciple.

I always feel humbled when reading God’s Word. I have so much more to learn each day. I’m grateful that God is at work in my life – helping me to love others as He loves me.
