Do You Have Citizenship in the Household of God?
I am Daily Thankful for Being Heaven Bound
by Veritas Vita 777
Are you a fellow citizen of the household of God? I like this statement from Pastor Warren Wiersbe, “Christians have a dual citizenship…and our citizenship in Heaven ought to make us better people here on earth.”
19 Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. (Eph. 2:19-22, NKJV)
As a citizen of Heaven, you have privileges here on earth as well. You have access to the throne of God. You can come boldly to the throne of grace, where you can find mercy and grace in your time of need. That is such a comfort and blessing.
14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:14-16, NKJV)
As a citizen of Heaven, you have access to putting on the armor of God. This is your protection from evil and the devil (See: 2 Cor. 11:3). You can be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might by putting on this armor daily.
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— 19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. (Eph. 6:10-20, NKJV)
As a citizen of Heaven, you will benefit from the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit. If you live in the Spirit and walk in the Spirit, the fruit of the Spirit will be alive and enhancing your life as you interact with others in a more godly way.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. (Gal. 5:22-26, NKJV)
Accepting Christ as my Lord and Savior is the best decision I’ve ever made.
