Do You Hold Honesty in High Esteem?

Putting High Value in Your Words and Actions

by Veritas Vita 777

I’ve lied before. I’m sure many of you have lied. I’m not proud of those times that I’ve lied. But I’m thankful for new beginnings. I’m grateful for the opportunity each day to grow and become more Christlike. Richard Sibbes said, “The life of an honest man is an oath.” I love that short but powerful statement. Your words are powerful. The promises you make are important. People will watch whether or not your behavior matches up with your words.

Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. 3 But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; 4 neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. 5 For [a]this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. 7 Therefore do not be partakers with them. (Eph. 5:1-7, NKJV)

This is a great passage from Ephesians 5:1-7. It’s titled, Walk in Love in my NKJV Bible. The first verse sets the tone and sums up this passage perfectly. Paul urges believers to be imitators of God as dear children. As a child of God, you are called to live a life devoted to the Father. You live out that devotion by imitating Him. You can work that out daily by reading His Word.

The Value of Honesty in Your Life

Honesty is not just about being truthful with other people. As a Christian, honesty is also about not lying to God. You shouldn’t lie to yourself either. Many times, lying to yourself is such an easy trap to fall into. You can hide what’s really going on in your life from others – at least for a while.

Sure, God can see directly into your heart. He knows when you’re lying to yourself and Him. However, God wants you to work on yourself and do all that you can to be honest with yourself and with Him.

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, But the Lord weighs the hearts. (Proverbs 21:2, NKJV)

God weighs the heart. He knows what is in your heart. It would be in your best interest – especially if you want to grow daily in your walk with the Lord – to start walking in honesty before God. You can do that by being transparent with Him. Be vulnerable. Share your every thought and feeling with Him.

God wants to hear from you. He wants to have deep communion with you.

Don’t run from God. Choose to have courage and run into His open arms today. Be real with Him. He will always be real with you.
