Do You Value Relationships as Highly as God Does?

Learning to Become Better at Cultivating Relationships with Others

by Veritas Vita 777

God values relationships.

I love this quote from David Watson. It’s so true. God values unity among believers. He wants His children to walk in love and be a light to the world. You can’t have a good witness in this world if you are constantly walking in disunity.

“Christianity is all about relationships with God and with others.” – David Watson

Consider some of the following verses that discuss unity.

1. No Divisions

10 Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all [a]speak the same thing, and that there be no [b]divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. (I Cor. 1:10, NKJV)

Christians should work diligently at cultivating unity among other believers, not just as a façade, but as genuine harmony. Sure, this isn’t always easy. But it’s important as a believer that you make the effort. Ask God for help in this area.

2. Be Like-minded

5 Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, 6 that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 15:5-6, NKJV)

In this passage, Paul is praying for unity among the believers. He is urging them to be like-minded toward one another. That is done through Jesus Christ as the God of patience and comfort grants you to be like-minded.

3. Blessed Unity

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity! (Psalm 133:1, NKJV)

The notes in my study Bible list “great delight” or “good pleasure” as relevant terms to the words in the verse good and pleasant. I don’t like conflict. I love when people get along. I know that’s not always possible. However, it is the way that believers should be working together – according to God’s Word – for the common goal of being a good witness of Christ to this world.

4. Be of One Mind

11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Become complete. Be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. (2 Cor. 13:11, NKJV)

I love this verse from 2 Cor. 13:11. Become complete. You become complete as you grow closer to the Lord each day. Believers are urged to be of good comfort to one another through all the daily struggles. You are called to be of one mind and to live in peace. The ending of this farewell address is beautiful: and the God of love and peace will be with you. It’s only because of God, that believers can live in unity.

Do you value relationships in your life? I’m working on this more and more each day. I’ve come to see how much God values relationships and the cultivation of them in our lives each day.
