Is Fear Holding You Back?

Do Not Fear for God is with You

by Veritas Vita 777

Fear can be debilitating. I have experienced such paralyzing fear. I’ve also experienced the presence and peace of God that has helped me overcome those fears. Is fear holding you back? If it is, read this verse from Isaiah 41:10. Consider the following three things that you can do to overcome your fear with God’s help.

Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
(Isaiah 41:10, NKJV)

Step Out in Faith

God is with you. If you need to, personalize it and keep telling yourself that God is with me. Hold on to that truth as you step out in faith – in your journey to overcome the fears that are holding you back.

1. Honesty

The journey to overcoming fear begins with genuine honesty. You must make a decision to honestly evaluate your situation. Identify what is causing fear to rule your life. Sometimes you can be afraid and not really know why you are fearful. That fear can be overwhelming. Yet, you must take a deep introspective look and seek to understand what is going on under the surface of your life.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (2 Tim. 1:7, NKJV)

Trust in the Holy Spirit who will empower you. Don’t give in to the vacuum of fear that can stagnate you. God has given you a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind.

2. Submersion

Submerse yourself in God. You can do that through intense study of His Word. You can’t just read a passage and forget what it said. You need to read the words to comprehend them, not just to ‘get it done.’ You must diligently study it and apply the message to your life.

4 I sought the Lord, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears. 5 They looked to Him and were radiant, And their faces were not ashamed.
(Psalm 34:4-5, NKJV)

Spend time in prayer and worship of God. Focus on Him and not on the fear. Yes, this is difficult. You’ll need to memorize and recite Bible verses to yourself. Keep reciting them until the truth of God’s Word settles deep into your spirit – and you realize that fear does not have to keep hold of your life. Let it go. Trust that God is in control.

3. Encouragement

Seek encouragement from a trusted friend or family member. Contact the pastor or other leaders in your church. If you experience severe anxiety, you may want to get help from a Christian counselor.

The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?
(Psalm 27:1, NKJV)

Getting support from other people is important. Just remember to find an individual who is further along in their Christian walk than you are, so that they can share wise counsel with you – from God’s Word. You need counsel that reflects the Word of God.

You Don’t Have to Be Afraid

I hope this has encouraged you today. I have honestly experienced overwhelming fear. I have felt God’s powerful presence in my life. He is my light and salvation. I don’t have to fear anyone or anything. The Lord is the strength of my life.

The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?
(Psalm 27:1, NKJV)
