Why It’s Important to Maintain a Good Mindset

Seeing Possibilities in All the Impossibilities Around You

by Veritas Vita 777

Your mindset can positively or negatively impact the trajectory of your life. If you’re constantly focused on all the bad things that are happening around you, it’s easy to stay stuck in negativity. However, when you can nurture a positive mindset in your life, that enables you to see the possibilities in all the impossibilities around you.

“I think anything is possible if you have the mindset and the will and desire to do it and put the time in.” – Roger Clemens

According to the Mayo Clinic, Positive thinking and eliminating negative talk in your life can help you reduce stress. Positive thinking often starts with self-talk. Self-talk is the endless stream of unspoken thoughts that run through your head. These automatic thoughts can be positive or negative. Some of your self-talk comes from logic and reason. Other self-talk may arise from misconceptions that you create because of lack of information or expectations due to preconceived ideas of what may happen.”

Do you use positive self-talk to help you maintain a better mindset?

I use positive self-talk. However, I didn’t always do that. I practiced negative self-talk. That only served to stagnate my life. You can read more about that in my article:

Lie I’ve Told Myself that Kept Me Prisoner: I’d become my own worst enemy

“No matter what, people grow. If you chose not to grow, you’re staying in a small box with a small mindset. People who win go outside of that box. It’s very simple when you look at it.” – Kevin Hart

I love that statement from Kevin Hart. My favorite part is his statement that if you don’t choose to grow, you will stay in the box—you won’t expand your mindset. Personal growth and development – and more important, spiritual growth – has impacted my life in such a positive way. I’ve learned how to nurture an optimistic mindset through positive self-talk – and most vitally, memorizing and reciting Bible verses.

8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. (Phil. 4:8, NKJV)

That verse, Phil. 4:8, truly sums up the idea of cultivating a positive mindset. Paul shares with the Philippians that they should meditate on these things: true, noble, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtue, and praiseworthy. Anything that fits that list is something that you should meditate on and use as a means of nurturing a positive mindset in your life.

“From the neck up is where you win or lose the battle. It’s the art of war. You have to lock yourself in and strategise your mindset. That’s why boxers go to training camps: to shut down the noise and really zone in.” – Anthony Joshua

You can choose to focus on negative things and stay stuck in a bad perspective. You can also choose to concentrate on more praiseworthy things and cultivate a positive perspective.
